Recap

This week’s episode found Shawn and Gus in 1990 at the Santa Barbara Scare Fest, Gus making excuses about being a complete wuss.

In the present, Shawn and Juliet were sneaking around the basement, Juliet cautioning Shawn to be careful for fear of their relationship from being discovered, but the intensity is broken by Juliet’s pair of tickets to scare fest. Unfortunately, Shawn was already going with Gus, prompting Shawn to lie to Juliet. When Juliet asks about whether or not Shawn’s told Gus about their relationship, he launches into a story about what happened last time he got into a relationship - the dreaded caramel binge.

At scare fest, Shawn witnesses the murder of the Park President during a ride in the haunted house, the only one to witness the murder, as Gus “inspects his watch for glowing” his eyes shut to avoid seeing the decapitated heads and ghoulish costumes.

Eventually Shawn’s encounter is proven when the body is found in the ride, unearthing a twenty year old secret that becomes the explanation for the string of murders that ensue, all associated with the death of a young rider in 1995.

They eventually “unmask” the killer as the haunted house attendant, added by her boyfriend, who also works at the carnival.

The end finds Shawn and Juliet at the office, Shawn still trying to convince Gus, though unsuccessfully, that he should be surprised about his sudden relationship.

Gus ends up going back on his caramel binge.
