Recap

Deshawn and Danny apologize to Liana, saying it was Ricard's plan, but she is angry at them.

Xander is proud to have been part of a winning strategy for once and is excited to work with Heather, Erika, and Ricard.

Deshawn is annoyed that Shan called him a snake. Ricard explains that Shan was more upset with Deshawn because Shan and Ricard had an understanding,

In a confessional, Ricard talks through the flaws in Deshawn's game, explaining how he never takes ownership of any moves.

Ricard takes Deshawn aside and advises him to chill. Deshawn realizes he came off as too confrontational after tribal council. Deshawn tries to make things right with Liana. Liana is hurt and wants Deshawn out but accepts his apology.

Danny reflects on his father's death in a car accident, which was 25 years ago to the day. He shares this with the other castaways. He now wants to make his father proud rather than be angry at him.

At the immunity challenge, Jeff tells us that a deadly twist is coming. The castaways enter. Jeff explains the challenge -- they must balance a ball on sections of cylinders. He describes the "dangerous" twist: the first person who drops out of the immunity challenge must participate in a "Do Or Die" game at Tribal Council. If they lose "Do Or Die," there is no vote, and they must leave the game immediately. If they win, they get immunity. They are given the choice of whether they want to participate in the immunity challenge.

Heather and Liana sit out. Erika, Xander, Deshawn, Ricard, and Danny opt to do the challenge. Deshawn is out in seconds, making him the one who will participate in "Do Or Die." Erika drops just before the end of the round, leaving Danny, Xander, and Ricard. Xander and Ricard drop at the same time, and Danny wins.

Deshawn tries to find solace in his fate as the first contestant to participate in the "Do Or Die" twist. Danny and Deshawn discuss what will happen if Deshawn wins "Do Or Die" and decide they need to vote Ricard. Danny discusses this option with Xander.

In a confessional, Xander worries about voting Ricard, as he is the next biggest threat, and having Ricard around keeps him safe.

Xander suggests Liana, but Danny doesn't think that makes sense. Xander acts like he trusts Danny, but he intends to vote for Liana with his alliance.

Erika checks in with Xander. Xander suggests voting out Liana rather than Ricard. Erika is still not sure, as she recognizes Ricard as a threat to win.

Xander and Ricard discuss their options, and both express their concern about Erika.

Liana worries that she may be an easy vote tonight.

Erika understands that Ricard is the biggest threat, but she still understands the value of keeping people around that you can trust.

The castaways arrive at tribal council. Jeff explains the situation, saying the choice to participate came down to relationships. Heather and Liana clarify that they didn't participate due to their track record for winning challenges, not their relationships.

Xander remarks that he enjoys all the twists of the season. Danny comments that he and Deshawn still tried to make a plan despite the uncertainty. Jeff also notes that this is the last night the shot-in-the-dark can be used.

Deshawn backtracks, explaining that his confrontation with Ricard hurt his relationships, and he worries about his integrity. Ricard offers his side of it. Deshawn discusses how important it is for him to represent his community. He breaks down, explaining how tough the Shan vote was for him.

Jeff asks Liana about it, and she makes an impassioned speech reflecting on what being a black woman means to her and being on Survivor.

Xander notes that he comes from a place of privilege, but he has learned a lot from hearing about the struggle of his fellow castaways. Danny tells Xander that his words are helpful in that he is declaring himself an ally to the cause, and further to that, Danny expresses faith that the rest of the castaways will always be allies to the black community. Heather shares her gratitude, as she had not understood what the black players had been carrying with them, and commits to keep learning.

Jeff sets up the "Do Or Die" game. There are three boxes. One contains a fire symbol, which represents life. Two contain skull symbols, which means he is out. Deshawn chooses a box. Before Deshawn opens his box, Jeff opens one of the unchosen, revealing a skull. He offers Deshawn the choice of keeping his original box or taking the other. Deshawn keeps his original box. Jeff opens it, revealing a flame. Deshawn remains safe, and the castaways must vote.

Liana is voted out 5-3.
