On The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 22, Laura and the team are determined to find the person who shot Jake. As they investigate the robbery at the store, they find out the owners grandson Joseph is a tech prodigy and he created the first ever 3D undetectable gun. The team is able to track down Joseph who has already given the gun to a gang of bikers and Laura goes after them.

When Frankie and Laura go to take down the gang, Laura finds the man who shot Jake and almost shoots him in anger, but Frankie stops her from making a mistake. They learn the gang has already sold the gun to someone else, but they aren't saying who, but Laura is able to decipher a clue and heads to the courthouse where she knows something is going to go down. At the courthouse, they find a woman named Pamela who bought the gun so she could shoot the man who killed her daughter. In an impassioned speech, Laura explains to Pamela that killing the man isn't going to do her any favors and Pamela eventually listens to Laura and gives her the gun.

While at the hospital, Jake is put into an induced coma to bring down the swelling in his head. When he is taken out of the coma, he confesses his true feelings to Laura and she admits she does love him a little bit, but in a shocking twist, Jake later forgets what he told Laura and the nurse confirms it is going to take a while to figure out what kind of brain damage Jake has.
