It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans but with the Mikealson brood back in town, the event is no cause for celebration. 

Klaus begins turning on each faction -- the witches, the wolves and the vampires -- to figure out who took Hayley. 

When each faction washes their hands of it because "they all like her," Klaus takes a hostage from each group to use as leverage into forcing them to do what they want. 

Everyone warns Klaus not to do anything he'll regret, but alas, when he gets a box with Hayley's mutilated body part inside, a switch flips.

He feasts on both a werewolf and a witch, but Vincent arrives just in time to save Josh. 

During a trip with Marcel, they realize whoever took her is torturing her because she's a hybrid and not a pureblood. 

It dawns on them that the werewolves wanted to find their Alpha, the witches were forthcoming with spells but all the vampires ever did was resist. 

Therefore, the kidnapper must be a vampire. 

Marcel realizes that Klaus is right -- he has lost control of his people and they won't fall in line unless he instills fear in them. 

With Klaus by his side, he orders all the vampires to give up their day rings until he trusts them again.

In a fit of anger, Klaus throws the box with Hayley's mutilated body part and finds a little coin inside with a Nazi swastika symbol. 

It then dawns on him that his enemy is someone he thought he "did away with years ago."

Meanwhile, Hope is back at the Salvatore Boarding School where she's "safe."

After Vincent tells Freya about Ivy's cards predicting that Hope is the literal devil that will ruin them all, she visits her darling niece to help her control her powers. 

At first, Hope seems into the idea but soon realizes that Freya is using her. 

In her anger, she sets the Saltzman twins' lair on fire and realizes, she probably needs more help than she's letting onto.
