Having escaped from the Sanctuary with the help of Eugene, Gabriel and Dr. Carson continue their attempt to make it back to the Hilltop. With Gabriel's condition continuing to worsen, including vision loss and an increased fever, their situation is looking dire.

Gabriel and Dr. Carson follow they believe to be the sound of a bell, which leads them to an old shack. Inside, they are amazed to find antibiotics and other medicine to treat Gabriel's illness, along with a map and car key hidden inside a piggy bank.

As they attempt to traverse the property, Dr. Carson accidentally steps in an unseen bear trap, with his screams of agony alerting nearby walkers. Dr. Carson desperately tries to fight off the walkers, as Gabriel attempts to shoot them, but due to his impaired vision, is unable to aim properly.

Gabriel hopes for the best and blindly fires the rifle, miraculously killing the walker and saving Dr. Carson. Gabriel helps the doctor to the car, and as they attempt to leave, they are captured by the Saviors.

Gabriel insists that everything will work itself out, but when Dr. Carson goes for one of the Savior's guns, he is shot dead, as a horrified Gabriel is driven away back to the Sanctuary.

Negan tells Eugene that when Gabriel is brought back, he'll find out how they escaped one way or another, and puts Eugene in charge of his own outpost to begin making bullets.

When Gabriel arrives, he convinces Negan that it was Dr. Carson that aided their escape, clearing Eugene of any foul play.

After their escape from Alexandria, Daryl helps lead the Alexandrians across heavily guarded Savior territory in order to make it to the Hilltop. Dwight suggests that they go through the swamp. as Negan felt it was too dangerous to have anyone guard that area.

With no other options, Daryl leads the group through the swamp, while Tara consistently tries to sabotage Dwight. While alone, Dwight apologizes to Tara for killing Denise, but Tara attempts to shoot Dwight and chases him through the woods.

Dwight is forced to join his old group when he encounters some Saviors in the woods, in order to prevent them from finding the Alexandrians.

Daryl eventually make it to Hilltop and reveal the news about Carl's death. Maggie orders that the captive Saviors will be allowed out of their confinements, as she shows a bit more compassion toward them. With Henry watching the captive Saviors, demands to know which one of them killed his brother.

To prevent Henry escalating matters further, Morgan lies to him and tells him that it was Gavin.

At the Sanctuary, Negan gathers the Saviors, which includes Dwight, having returned with the other Saviors he encountered earlier. Negan covers Lucille with walker blood, demonstrating that one cut would be enough to kill a person and that they will use infected weapons against Rick's group.
