Recap

Rita's dreams are all coming true. But while she believes that she's happy for the rest of her life, an entire cadre of police arrive with a search warrant.

Catherine has asked them to solve the mystery of Papa's death. An autopsy was Catherine's last gift to her father.

When Rita dumps her purse in front of the cops, the giant syringe is inside. She's arrested and taken downtown.

Alma watches from the crowd, a sly smile on her face.

Alma's in an incredible mood. Bertram wasn't great, though. He's worried about Rita. He's hoping she's reveling in the aftermath of Carlo's death.

Dee wants to invite Vern over to dinner with the parents. He's her fella, she says. She has a fella.

Her parents are thrilled that she's engaged, and a family hug is in action. Alma has been praying to St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, for Dee to find a man.

Rita's family lawyer cannot represent her because Catherine engaged his services a week ago. Catherine also ensured that Rita wasn't allowed bail.

The attorney thinks Rita did it.

Women are at the veterinary practice with news that Rita Castillo has been arrested for killing her husband. Bertram cannot believe it.

Rita calls, and Isobel picks up. Catherine instructs Isobel to get cash and the photos from Vern and how to blackmail Catherine. Catherine is listening in on the line.

Bertram is at home, shocked that Rita's been arrested. Bertram is concerned that Alma's not upset. He doesn't want to let her rot in jail. Alma is sure things will turn out exactly as they should.

Vern hopes that he impresses her parents, and he'd like them to know that he's in love and noble about the pregnancy, but she's not going to tell them until the rice has been thrown.

Catherine is on the couch pretending to be asleep when Isobel leaves. Catherine runs to Rita's room to search for the photos. She makes a mess of the place and then realizes she needs to check Isobel's room, too.

There's nothing, but there is a stack of letters in a suitcase that brings a cunning smile to her face.

Isobel delivers the money and the expectation to visit Rita in Jail.

The ladies are drinking and gossiping about Rita over lunch. Alma watches from across the room, going into the restroom, catching Mavis to talk about Rita's arrest. Alma plants more seeds. "She actually went through with it," she says. She says that when she and Rita talked in her kitchen, she learned everything. She didn't take it seriously, but now she realizes she was right.

Vern thinks Rita could easily kill Carlo, but she'd never be upstairs at the time her goon would do the job. He knows she's not stupid. She wants his help, but he needs to get his girlfriend's OK first.

Isobel shows the photo to blackmail her to ensure Rita gets bail. But she has no intention of going back to Texas. She thinks her breasts are much better than the photo suggests.

She's not sentimental about the past, unlike Isobel, who has held onto letters about their previous murder of Harry from Galveston.

Isobel quits on the spot.

Scooter thinks Rita is performing the guards. She's shocked that Catherine is still talking to Scooter. He's created a plan of his own after having sex. At least he kept her distracted while Rita did... whatever!

Scooter thinks he should stop visiting since he could be a motive, and it might make him look guilty, too.

He waves goodbye to his Aunt Rita.

Vern is late for dinner. He's brought flowers, flattering Rita with compliments on her garden. When Vern says he's a detective, Alma is worried. But she's OK with him being a private detective.

Dee wants to know about his latest client. He'll tell her later. She might even laugh about it, but probably not.

Alma really likes Vern and hopes that Dee will have a nice long engagement so they can get to know him. Dee is going to have to share why they want to get married quickly.

Bertram and Alma guess Rita is Vern's client. Alma cannot believe it. Vern says he's sorry; he knows that she hates Rita's guts. What?? Bertram cannot believe it. Vern has news about the syringe full of the poison that killed Carlo.

Rita now pins it on Isobel. Isobel is going to buy a bus ticket to parts unknown. Rita cannot believe it. She even gave her a job! As a maid, Isobel says. She quits!

Bertram feels deceived. Alma used him as a murder weapon.

Alma and Bertram walk in on Vern, talking about the baby. Their faces of disappointment bounce back and forth.

Alma tries to get Vern to change careers. He doesn't know how to respond.

Catherine tells Scooter about the photos. She wonders how he knew about them. Did she try to blackmail him, too??

She can't believe Rita would drag an innocent man into her vendetta.

Catherine is so glad he's not angry with her. With everyone gone, she'll be all alone in the cold, empty house. She needs a reason to get up in the mornings, and having someone to take care of would do it.

He sure wouldn't want her to be lonely. He offers to start a fire, but he already has.

Dee laughs off Alma's thoughts on Vern's career.

They both realize that Alma only got weird when Alma heard his new job was for Rita. But Dee wants him to take the job. They need the money. And anyway, as her new son-in-law, Alma will never like Vern.

Bertram rails against Alma for the murder. He cannot believe it's only because Rita was cruel toward her. He'll sleep on the sofa. She doesn't seem worried in the slightest.

Vern visits Rita at 6 a.m. He's going to take the case. She didn't think he would.

He needs a list of all of her enemies. It's going to be a long list.

Grace visits Alma. She plans on nominating Alma again for the club, and this time she'll try harder to get her into the club.

Isobel is in a hotel room when she spots a photo with Alma's face in the frame.

A promising business opportunity has just presented itself.
