From Katherine to Klaus, The Vampire Diaries has always been about some pretty awesome villains.

Decide on the very best ones now!

#1 Kai. He's human with no remorse. Pure evil villain by choice. #2 All the vampires at one time or another. Its their nature.

And, seriously, I forgot about half of these... They weren't even make villains! Each season had one or maybe two primary villains, and those villains have been:
Damon (Season 1)
Katherine (Season 2, various times throughout seasons)
Elijah (beginning Season 2)
Klaus (Seasons 2 & 3, various times throughout seasons)
Original family (Seasons 3 & 4)
Esther (Season 4?)
Mikael (sort of, for Klaus)
Silas (Season 5?)
Travelers (current)

Klaus will always be my favorite villain. He was truly the first "big bad". Katherine was afraid of him, Isobel was mostly a threat because she worked for him, Elijah (while scary) initially arrived to kill Klaus.. He was truly the "original" (ha!) villain on The Vampire Diaries.

this dude came in second in my books...especially when Katherine first opened the coffin and he was all chained up!!!!! and then he bit her to almost her hundreth death wow compelling scene ......

vampire diaries has the uncanny tendency and ability to massacre villains. what starts out as a fearsome war monger ends up being a little poodle or chihuahua who gets killed easily. only klaus and silas really maintained some fear factor after being introduced on screen

top 5
1. silas
2. klaus
3. mikael
4. katherine
5. esther honorable mention to qetsiyah

really? the hunter dude? a villain? and atticus? he was just a crazy dude, not a villain :/

Where's Kol? He was the best.

The only villain worth mentioning here because he is the villain of them all is Klaus, he and only him. The other ones are ok but they were not as good as Klaus was.

@ Nona

I totally agree when he was first introduced...... especially all we knew was "Klaus" didn't see his face just the mere mentioning of his name made everybody run!!!!!

@ Lynn

And then he opened his mouth and that's when we realized that he was this pathetic needy original vampire, who constantly whined about everyone who had supposedly wronged him, held petty grudges for centuries and who turned a bunch of werewolves into an army of hybrids because he had no friends and was worried about being lonely (of course the hybrids hated him because he took away their freedom and forced them to do his dirty work, so after all of that he still had no friends.....and eventually no hybrids because he slaughtered all of them) My vote goes to Kai or Silas.

@ Jordana34

Exactly. Especially now since Klaus is making a holy show of himself on TO taking order from his human therapist. Mikael is a hell of a lot more scary than Klaus in both shows. He was willing to kill Elijah, the son he is most proud of in order to get to Klaus. Silas is scary. To be honest, the Mystic Falls lot were lucky that he wanted to die. Imagine Silas with his power and the same MO as Klaus or Kai. There would be no stopping him. That scene where he reduced Klaus to a quivering wreck with nothing more than a few mind tricks cemented him as the bigger powerhouse. Also Quetsiyah for being the only one who could go toe to toe with him is pretty scary in her own right though she was intended to be a lot more sympathetic than him. Personality wise, however, Kai is the most terrifying. His complete lack of ability to emotionally connect with anyone is what sets him apart at the moment. He is just a void when it comes to emotions. He is about the closest example of a true blue psychopath/sociopath that this show has seen. While I have no doubt that Kai will soon discover his lost humanity and fall madly in love with Elena (puke), at the moment, my vote goes for Kai: Scariest Villian personality wise
Silas: Scariest villian power wise

Kai and Katherine.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
