Does Syfy have the next Walking Dead on its hands?

It certainly has the next Walking Dead-like show on its hands. And it would likely settle for a quarter of the ratings.

The network has come out with the first trailer for Z Nation, a zombie-themed drama that takes place three years after a virus has decimated mankind.

A team of everyday people are tasked with transporting the only individual to have survived the outbreak from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab awaits his blood.

According to the official Syfy synopsis, however, this survivor hides a “dark secret that threatens” all around him.

Z Nation stars Harold Perrineau, Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, and Keith Allan.

It premieres on Friday, September 12 at 10/9c.

The Walking Dead Season 5, meanwhile, premieres on October 12.
