As previously reported, Derek Hough will be stepping off of the dance floor and onto the set Nashville Season 3 for an upcoming arc.
The star's role has him poised to interact with Hayden Panettiere's Juliette Barnes. With Juliette's penchant for bad boys, what can we expect from Hough's role on Nashville? Read on for excerpts from our exclusive interview, as as we discuss his crossover from Dancing with the Stars to The South...
TV Fanatic: How did this role come about- did they have you in mind or did you audition?
Derek Hough: They said "hey this character is sort of a guy who is helping someone through the ropes on acting." They had me in mind and asked. I had to see the scheduling [of DWTS] first and foremost, but once that was all good I was good.
TV Fanatic: What drew you to this role on Nashville?
DH: He's helping her [Juliettte] through the ropes and helping her feel safe since she's out of her comfort zone. It was actually quite funny because Hayden was comforting towards me in real life. It was a nice parallel there. It was great to work with her and the arc that I have, it's interesting to be a part of something that for her character is a pivotal moment.
TV Fanatic: In what ways did being a dancer prepare you?
DH: Honestly...blocking, hit this mark, hit that mark, physically. For me in dancing I'm so used to telling a story with my movement and body so for this it's different, it's words. The whole cast and crew were amazing. The city was incredible. Hayden was a dream to work with, such a joy. We got along really well and she was wonderful.
TV Fanatic: Any memorable moments on set?
DH: Just Hayden and I laughing! It would get late and we would get delirious. Also my sister Mary Beth was on set with me a lot. She lives in Nashville, it was great. I don't get to see her often.
TV Fanatic: Are you interesting in more acting? If so, what roles/genres?
DH: Absolutely, given the right project or role. For me dancing will always be a part of my life, choreographing, creating, but I'm all about moving and growing. I'd love to be able to expand and go further with it in some projects. In things that make sense.
TV Fanatic: Can you give us any sneak peeks or what we can expect from your character?
DH: He's an actor from Hollywood. He's just kind of...he's confident, but he's not arrogant and he's kind of a good guy. He means well.
Hough's guest role is set to begin TONIGHT on Nashville Season 3 Episode 3.
