Blue Bloods Season 5 Episode 14 Review: The Poor Door

at .  Updated at . Comments

I knew that several luxury apartment buildings in New York City had low income housing units within them but I’d never heard of “The Poor Door” until Blue Bloods Season 5 Episode 14

Talk about the distinct division between the haves and the have nots. The low income residents weren’t even allowed to enter through the lobby but that didn’t stop Bobby from meeting Rada Radchenko. Little did Baez know how close to the mark her Romeo and Juliet reference would be.

I almost believed Ivan when he said that Diego had earned his respect when he turned down that money, that was until the Russian hitman nodded to him in the lobby. I felt horrible for Rada as she saw that photo. One moment she believed her father was being loving and protective and the next her entire world slipped off its axis as she was confronted with the monster he truly was.

They may not have been able to prosecute Ivan Radchenko but it almost doesn’t matter as he’s now forced to live in a hell of his own making. Would having a poor but honest son-in-law really have been so bad?

Gormley was put in a tight spot when his former partner’s $300,000 Ferrari hit the papers. Weams was so smart about finding schemes to make money but so stupid to call so much attention to it. I suppose that was all ego as he felt that he’d figured out this secret way to get ahead that no one else had. Unfortunately he was cutting corners and evicting real people to do it.

Frank took a hard line with both Weams and Gormley. He even questioned the promotion he’d given Gormley and asked Garrett’s opinion about whether Gormley was up for the job at 1PP. Much to my surprise, Garrett believed he was, although he allowed for some room for error in this Blue Bloods quote

Garrett: I could be wrong.
Frank: Have you ever said that and actually meant it?
Garrett: No.

In the end I wasn’t sure if Frank hoped Gormley would fire the man or show mercy. He was very hard to read.

Jamie and Eddie played everything from Would you rather?  - (For the record, I’d lick the tiles in the Lincoln Tunnel before I’d ever touch the water in the Gowanus Canal, never mind go skinny dipping in it!) - to a game of bad cop / worse cop that Jamie took a little too seriously. It almost seemed as though he was channeling older brother Danny for a moment. But Jamie’s empathy eventually shone through as he asked, how much punishment can one man take? Jamie couldn’t help but feel for the dying man who had no one left to call.
