The Returned Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Lucy

Perhaps coming back to life means getting a second chance.

On The Returned Season 1 Episode 6, Lucy came back to life after flatlining in the hospital.

However, she may have come back a bit different than before.

It was only a matter of time before Lucy woke up, but I was surprised that she died first.

Like mostly everyone who's returned, Lucy didn't remember her attack, and the wounds on her stomach had magically healed.

Lucy may have been a fraud before, but there's no denying her gifts now. Her conversation with Jack has me worried for everyone.

Lucy: Since I woke up, it's really happening now.
Jack: What are you talking about?
Lucy: Voices in my head whispering things. Scary things. Things I don't wanna hear.

I have a feeling that Lucy is going to play a much bigger role in the remaining episodes. As far as we know, she's the only one who's hearing voices from the great beyond.

Maybe she'll use this second chance at life to commune with the dead and help everyone figure out what's been going on.

There was definitely the theme of second chances going around. Peter's talk with Victor/Henry enlightened us to who Peter use to be, but also revealed that the returned can play tricks on people's minds.

I'm not wrong in believing Victor/Henry conjured up the image of Richard to scare Peter, am I?

There's obviously no excuse for Peter's involvement in Victor/Henry's death, but I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. He's obviously spent all these years trying to be a better person.

Many people have speculated that Julie was one of the returned as well. Thankfully she didn't jump off the roof to test her, and the audience's, theory. Victor/Henry confirmed that she wasn't like him, but that she was the fairy who was supposed to protect him.

It's unclear what he meant by that, but it'll have to mean more than simply watching over him.

Claire finally started wising up to what's been going on with her daughters. I was thrilled she began to question Camille because girl has been shady.

Camille didn't seem to care at all about her sister. All she cared about in this episode was trying to hook up with Ben. Thankfully he got the hell out of there when she confirmed her real identity.

Claire realized she wasn't being a good mother to Lena, and learned some hard truths from Jack.

You know what I think? I think you're pissed off you've got no one left to mourn. Camille's back, Lena doesn't need you, and you don't know what the heck to do. Can you imagine being anything other than the perfect grieving martyr?

Jack

His comments were completely harsh, but also completely true. It can't be easy to lose a child like that, but she failed to be there for the daughter that was still living.

Speaking of Lena, her storyline in this episode took an interesting/sexy turn. I did not see her hook up with Adam coming.

The guy was struggling not to hurt her as evidenced by the way he touched her wound and looked at that giant knife.

I'm very confused by what type of killer he is. He eats women's stomachs, so is he a cannibal? He seems to have developed feelings for Lena in a short period of time, so is he not a sociopath then?

Perhaps Adam is looking for his second chance.

Adam: What happened?
Lena: I did something unforgivable too. I think that's why this is happening to me. I should be dead.
Adam: Me too. But we're not, we're here. Maybe it's not too late to be different.

We learned Lena has slept with many men, but I'm not sure this situation with Adam is the same. She seemed drawn to Adam, especially when he revealed he came back to life.

There are so many questions coming out of tonight's episode, that it's hard to keep them all straight:

  • Why do some of the returned remember their deaths and others don't?
  • Where was Simon and Rowan?
  • Has Lucy taken on the role of messenger between the dead and the living?
  • What does Victor mean when he calls Julie a fairy?
  • Why do Camille and Lena share a connection? Is it simply because they are twins?

So over to you guys! What did you think of the episode? Were you surprised by Lucy's newfound ability? What do you make of Lena and Adam hooking up? What are your predictions for The Returned Season 1 Episode 7?

What if Lena's right? What if Camille isn't who she used to be?
