Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 10 Review: All I Want Is You

at .  Updated at .

Have you read Meredith's file?

Even though it looks like we'll be seeing the dark and twisty side of Meredith again in the beginning of Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 10 her long list of horrible experiences have made her stronger.

And, more importantly, she's no longer a character who wants to be alone – even if she doesn't realize it.

This isn't the first time Meredith's been in therapy. In fact, we've seen her there often, whether it's for her own reasons or because it's required by the hospital. This therapist has her seeing things in a new way, though.

Many sessions with the therapist are paralleled with what's happening in the hospital, as Meredith finds herself talking more about her friends and colleagues than herself. After insisting she wants to be alone, but realizing that kicking everyone out of her house doesn't actually make her feel better, her therapist tells her he thinks she's fine.

Because even though Meredith has always been someone who is good at being alone, she doesn't want to be – or need to be – any longer. She's got a family, and they've all been there for her every step of the way. No matter how hard she pushes people away (like when Derek died and she took off) they're going to be there.

The continued focus on Meredith's still-changing and developing character has been the strength of Grey's Anatomy Season 12 so far. Add in a montage of old scenes to pull at our heart strings, and you can't help but feel nostalgic.

Meanwhile, everyone else has their own drama to deal with. (Oh, and an ambulance explodes. Just another day at the hospital...)

We finally get a little more insight into the relationship between Riggs and Owen, and it actually draws on parallel for what's happening with Meredith and Amelia. It still isn't the full story, but Owen tells Amelia that he had a sister once, and for some reason, he holds whatever happened to her against Riggs.

Amelia is able to relate, which hopefully means reconciliation between she and Meredith is also around the corner.

We also can't talk about character development without talking about Alex. It's so nice to see more focus on him as well, and watching how he deals with a patient proves he's perfectly suited for pediatric surgery. Part of that is his passion and his strong opinions, and the other part is his bedside manner.

Other Thoughts:

  • We've seen a lot of gross things on Grey's Anatomy, but I could really do without shots of ribs. For real.
  • Maggie and Andrew are adorable, and so is the chief's Richard's reaction when he realizes they're seeing each other.
  • That 3D printer seems to get a lot of use at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, doesn't it?
  • Kudos to Samantha Isler, who plays Maya, for an outstanding performance in this episode.

Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 10 Quotes

Therapist: Meredith, you were attacked in your own hospital, and you consider that small stuff?
Meredith: Have you read my file?

A terrible thing happened. I did get knocked around, but nobody died. And any day where nobody dies, that's a good day.
