Castle Round Table: Pick a Career for Alexis!

at .

Rick Castle went undercover as an English as a Second Language student in order to find justice for all. We knew he’d help solve the case but getting the accent right was another story all together.

Below, TV Fanatics Stacy Glanzman, Jim Garner, Robin Harry and Christine Orlando are joined by Andy from A Possibility of Joy a Castle fan forum to debate Castle’s accent, Alexis' career and the revisiting of Rick’s disappearance on Castle Season 8 Episode 13

What did you think of Castle’s accent for the class?

Stacy: When he was actually doing it I didn't think it was bad. My issue was that he dropped it a couple of times, most notably after trying the Asian lady's dish.

Jim: I noticed him drop it too and wondered why nobody else did. The accent was fair, but he did speak English pretty well to be in the class.

Robin: He had the French Canadian quite solidly at times, but he was wildly inconsistent with it, and that drove me nuts during the episode.

Andy:  I loved Castle’s accent. Nathan has such a nice voice it's fun to hear it differently.

Christine: I haven’t heard many French Canadian accents but for some reason this one kept reminding me of Kermit the Frog. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I love Kermie. I’m just not sure that’s what they were going for.

Are you happy that they are revisiting Castle’s disappearance?

Stacy: Yes, but I want closure. I don't want to just get another tidbit of information and then have to wait for the rest. Let's make this the last time we need to revisit it.

Jim: I knew they would get back to it at some point. Like Stacy, I'm hoping for some closure this time around.

Robin: YES! The "resolution" that we got last time was just so terrible and lackluster that I'm quite happy they're taking another swing at it. Let's just hope it doesn't get worse than last time.

Andy: I'm not really happy with it but if it puts the whole Lokstat story to rest I'm all for it.

Christine: This story was such a let down the first time around that I am hoping they can fix it. I’d say they can’t make it worse but this is the same writing team that gave us the first half of Castle season 8 so anything is possible. Right now I’ve just got my fingers crossed that we get real answers and close this case for good.

If you could pick a career for Alexis, what would it be?

Stacy: She's obviously really good with computers and she works well with Hayley, so maybe something along those lines.

Jim: I think she makes a really nice cyber investigator or even private investigator. Clearly she's getting to the point that she needs to pick something to do.

Robin: Wait, did she finish school and I missed it? I quite liked the idea of her teaching English. It's somewhat related to the linguistic nature of her father's job, but yet something all her own. The Alexis of the first several seasons was also quite wise beyond her years, so maybe she can impart some of that wisdom on some of her students.

Andy: I'd tell her to intern as a medical examiner. I liked the character best when she was helping Lanie.

Christine: I loved the idea of Alexis working as an ESL teacher. That seems in keeping with her character. I can see her as lots of things, working at a non-profit, an attorney, a doctor but private investigator just doesn’t ring true for me.

This episode referenced The Equalizer and Miami Vice. Do you have a favorite ’80s TV show?

Stacy: I was a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a kid, so I would have to go with that.

Jim: My sister and I watched the A-Team and Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night, so I have to go with the duo.

Robin: MacGyver was, is, and will always be one of my ultimate heroes. So imagine the joy when I met Richard Dean Anderson several years ago and got to tell him that in person. *squeee!!*

Andy: I was a big fan of Scarecrow and Mrs King, Remington Steele and all the 80's nighttime soaps.

Christine: I can’t possibly pick just one! First off Jim, The A-team was on Tuesdays for most of it’s run but you are right about The Dukes of Hazzard. That’s where you’d find me every Friday night (along with Dallas and Falcon Crest). I was also a HUGE fan of Scarecrow & Mrs. King and swooned over MacGyver. I have to add Moonlighting. The first couple of seasons where great fun and then it crushed my heart. Yes, I’ve always been a TV Fanatic.

Was there anything about “And Justice For All” that disappointed you?

Stacy: Vikram continues to be unnecessary and most of the time he is just annoying. His comment about being the sexiest investigator alive made me groan, but I did love Espo's response.

Jim: Totally agree that Vikram has become totally pointless. I thought the idea was for him to be in hiding and tracking down LokSat, now he's out helping Kate do investigation?!? BAH.. just get rid of him already.

Robin: I didn't realize how much I disliked Vikram until he appeared on screen and my mood instantly changed. I can't stand the guy and I'm just waiting for him to be revealed as a bad guy so I can feel better about hating him.

Andy: I enjoyed it for the most part, only wish we could have had more scenes with Caskett. I want them investigating together again but I'm not holding my breath for it to happen given Castle season 8.

Christine: Vikram made me groan every time he appeared. As a tech, he only makes me miss Tori all the more. Like many of the above, I hope he disappears for good, and soon!

What was your favorite quote or scene from Castle Season 8 Episode 13?

Stacy: I loved Perlmutter trying to set Beckett up with his brother, and then mentioning to her that there was a scalpel if she needed it before leaving her alone with Castle.

Jim: I really liked Haley and Alexis in the office and telling Rick how the business is now successful. Rick still sees it as a playground while the girls actually are making a living at it.

Robin: I don't care how cliche it was, I loved the scene with the ESL students helping Rick to distract the FBI and separate him from the judge. It was so much fun, and I enjoyed every second.

Andy: I actually liked Martha's speech at the end about immigrants and county, and also how Beckett talked to the FBI agent.

Christine: Surprisingly, I enjoyed Rick trying to figure out his flashbacks and that he told Kate about them right away. No more secrets! Please.

Castle Season 8 Episode 13 Quotes

I didn't open this place to make money. I opened it for the exciting cases.

Castle

While I do love kissing you Beckett, it's just a little creepy when you do it in front of a dead body. It's inappropriate.
