Suits Season 6 Episode 1 Review: To Trouble

at .

Did Suits succeed after moving on from the central plot?

If Suits Season 6 Episode 1 is any indication, then it certainly did.

I really thought we'd be in for some sort of time jump, but the episode served more as an epilogue to Suits Season 5

We caught up with Mike on his first night in prison, and I must comment on just how well dressed the prisoners are. Those shirts are almost fashionable. This is most definitely not Litchfield from Orange Is The New Black.

The scene with Mike having his hair cut was when it really hit him that he was going to be spending a long time on the inside. Two years may not sound like much, but it really is.

All of the prison stuff was brilliantly executed, but I saw that twist with Frank coming a mile off. There was no freaking way that he was being THAT nice to Mike without an ulterior motive.

Mike is a smart dude. Sure, he doesn't have the credentials to practice law, but he's extremely intelligent, so I was disappointed he didn't see through Frank's false kindness.

Maybe he was scared about making an enemy out of Frank, but he shouldn't have caved. That was a big mistake and one that will come back to haunt him down the line.

There's no way that Mike would willingly turn the tables on Harvey, but now that Frank knows absolutely everything about his relationship with Rachel, he's pretty screwed.

Things weren't much better at Pearson Specter Litt. They were pretty terrible, what with Harvey being hauled in to help find a way to reverse the firm's dwindling fortunes.

It didn't help that the a delivery guy served Jessica. Her night really did go from bad to worse. They should have known better than to let the man into the office. They've been in their jobs for how many years?

The highlight of the hour had to be the gang getting high. Louis has always been pretty immature, so I thought he'd be the first one to join in. Consider me surprised when he had to inhale some of Norma's ashes.

Louis: Holy shit, this is the best thing ever. I love both of you so much.
Harvey [To Jessica]: This is all your doing.
Jessica: Harvey, we're making progress.
Louis: Shit, this is the best egg roll ever.
Jessica: Christ, get me out of here.

I know Norma wanted her ashes to be closer to Louis, but I don't think she meant THAT close. The high obviously helped them relax after what went down that day, but it didn't mean they were ready to throw in the towel.

Benjamin was obviously surprised at having more than one person close to him, but the look on Jessica's face was great timing. As if she would ever see him as anything more than the tech guy.

Rachel obviously struggled to move on with her life in Mike's absence. It did suck that because she wasn't his spouse, she had no right to see him without being approved.

That had to sting for her, but I don't think she realized the severity of the situation until she set foot in the office. Everywhere she walked, she could just see Mike.

It was a constant reminder of him. Will Rachel be able to continue working in the firm? Would she really leave?

Obviously, it's going to be bad if she leaves because the firm has no staff, but she has to do what's best for her.

All things considered, this was a fantastic return for the show. We're now six years in and the writing is as stellar as the first time the show graced the airwaves.

There's a lot up in the air. It should be incredibly interesting to see how it all shakes out. Suits is back and better than ever!
