The Last Ship Season 3 Episode 11 Review: Legacy

at .  Updated at .

Watching the destruction of the foundation of one of the most powerful countries in the world is a painful experience for all of its citizens.

The process is especially devastating for those who have fought to uphold the traditions that have made their home so respected and cherished.

As courageous leaders take a stance against their surprising new foes, it's thrilling to witness them forge partnerships with equally determined, but also unexpected, allies who hold drastically different morals than they do.

Further building upon the revelations of the leaders' motives and relationships from the past couple of episodes, The Last Ship Season 3 Episode 11 has also proved that the well-intentioned American officials are being manipulated by their counterparts.

Still determined to protect his home country, Tom bravely led the crew aboard the Nathan James in one last gallant battle against President Peng in Japan.

Finally being able to defeat his most notable foreign enemy of the season is an essential victory, as Tom can now truly fight his newly discovered foes at home.

Tom: Make no mistake: we're going after a target who's clearly anticipating us. If one part of this mission fails, it all fails.

With the prolonged plot-line of Tom wanting to spread the cure across Asia finally resolved, the drama can solely focus on the ramifications of Allison's betrayal of her fellow Americans. With the tension arising between the Chief of Staff and many of her colleagues, it's exciting that Tom can face his most dangerous opponent.

After watching Allison's blatantly lie about his motives to the American public on television, Tom and Joseph form an understanding that they need to fight her together.

Since Joseph still believed that his colleague led to the destruction of the Hayward at the beginning of the episode, his decision to now support Tom is a vital turnaround.

Joseph's decision to now support Tom fight the unwarranted charge of treason against him is one of the most gratifying moments of the episode.

It proves that the the people who are wary of Tom's motives can realize that he's actually trying to help them.

While the alliance between Tom and Joseph is one of the most vital bonds to form during The Last Ship Season 3 Episode 11, another essential relationship that further develops is the one between Kara and Tex. The former U.S. Army Special Forces soldier once again proved his heroic intuition as he made his return to the series.

After appearing in Seasons 1 and 2 of the action drama, Tex was disappointingly absent from the first 10 episodes of the third season. But his late return on Episode 11 is justified, as he was able to bring a fresh perspective to Kara and Jacob's predicament of also being targeted by Allison.

After working on the security detail for Rebecca Price and the other regional leaders, which plausibly explains his absence, Tex has the insight to help the Deputy Chief-of-Staff and reporter prove the corruption that Allison's leading in the White House.

Tex's knowledge of what the regional leaders are planning for the future of America, along with Kara's experience of working directly the Chief-of-Staff, offers the best possibility of President Oliver being able to reclaim his power.

I understand your partners will be in the audience, here to witness the dismantling of the United States.

President Oliver

As Tom partners with Joseph, and Tex and Kara further develop their alliance, in an effort to stop Allison's decision to break down the power of the United States, one of the most devastating consequences of the shift in leadership is Jacob's death.

Just like President Michener, the reporter's murder by the Secret Service for questioning Allison's plans prove how relentless she is in achieving her goal. Jacob was essential in helping Kara realize what her boss was truly planning, so his death is an unfortunate consequence of the coup.

As The Last Ship Season 3 winds down and prepares to air its last two episodes, Tom, Kara and their cohorts who are determined to restore the American government and society back to its glory will likely face more obstacles along the way.

So it will be interesting to see what tactics they'll use to succeed in their next mission.
