Justin Hartley Confirms Exit from The Young and the Restless

Things are looking up for Justin Hartley, even if they are looking down for his character of Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless.

Hartley confirmed today via a Facebook post that he was leaving the role he's been playing for two years to focus on his primetime show, NBC's This Is Us.

Here is his Facebook message in it's entirety:

To the wonderful fans of Y&R, After many weeks of having to keep quiet in order not to spoil storylines for all of you, the time has finally come that I’m able to write you this letter.

Although I am saying goodbye to Y&R, this is not a goodbye letter. I felt it was more important to write a thank you note.

Each and every one of you helped make my time on the show enjoyable. I always loved hearing about how excited all of you were for certain characters, how disgusted you were with others, at times even mine, or how we were able to help you escape from a hectic day.

You are some of the most loyal and dedicated fans I’ve ever encountered. You are truly the heart of the show. It simply does not work without you.

I wanted to thank you for that. Thank you for tuning in; thank you for letting me entertain you; thanks for entertaining me, and thank you for caring.

Although I’m leaving the show, you haven't gotten rid of me. Hahaha...not so fast.

I’m beyond thrilled and proud of my new series, This Is Us.

We have a sensational cast and crew, wonderful writing and I would be honored to have you all tune in and watch.

Here is a preview of what’s to come on This Is Us, premiering September 20th on NBC.

I’ll see you beauties in a couple of weeks!

Justin

Real Love - The Young and the Restless

If you've been following along with our The Young and the Restless weekly recaps, you know that things have not been going well for Adam Newman lately.

His father, Victor, teamed up with Chloe to frame him for a murder he didn't commit. Feeling as if there was nothing he could do, Adam pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

An about face from dear old dad meant a prison break for Adam, but Chloe's interference meant Adam being blown to bits in her continual vow for vengeance.

It will not be the end of Adam Newman on the soap, however, as a casting call has already gone out for a replacement. The Newmans, however, do not know that.

Will he ever come close to what Hartley has brought to the character? We can hope. We also know Hartley is one of a kind, even if soap recasts are not.

Hartley has a new show coming to NBC this fall, and it's lovely. It's highly recommended viewing by us here at TV Fanatic in our NBC First Impressions, and we wish all the best for Hartley and the rest of the cast on This Is Us.

What are your thoughts on this news? It was inevitable, but does that make it any better in the long run?
