Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14 Review: Commander-in-Chief

at .  Updated at .

As much as we'd like to think so, not every day in the life of the President of the United States is going to be exciting.

And so was the case on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14 where not a whole lot happened, but some interesting things came about.

President Ross - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14

Poor Tom Kirkman was certainly "outgunned" this hour by the appearance of President Moss. He really added some life to this hour, didn't he?

Tom was looking for some assurances that he was doing a good job, but Moss kind of kicked him in the gut. He didn't tell him he was doing a horrible job, he just said he wasn't doing what the job really required.

Watching Intently - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14

The whole exchange was quite humorous. Well, Moss' side of the conversation was. Tom's reaction was exactly what I expected. He was surprised but kept his mouth shut.

Moss couldn't have missed the disappointment on Tom's face when he told him the truth.

But isn't that what Tom needed to hear?

And who better to hear it from than a guy who not only had his job previously but also is someone Tom looks up to and admires?

Running this country is the hardest job there is. Problem is with everything that's flying at you, you're not actually running it. You're reacting. Not leading.

President Ross

Everyone around Tom is kissing his ass. Moss came in and kicked it (gently), and it's exactly what he needed.

He needed a little dose of reality. Tom may have had his ego bruised, but at least he listened and didn't blow up and call Moss all sorts of nasty names or run to his phone and blow up Twitter.

Facing Langdon - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14

He acted like an adult. Like a president should act...composed and, well, presidential.

I immediately liked Moss. I hope he sticks around and isn't killed off too soon, if at all. And hopefully, he's one of the good guys and not part of the conspiracy.

Tom needs someone like Moss on his side.

Can you imagine what fun it'll be if Moss and Hookstraten go head to head?

Maybe Moss' ass kicking was why Tom let out a little of his inner Jack Bauer when meeting with Langdon.

There was a moment when I thought he was going to go full Bauer when he asked everyone to leave the room so he could be alone with the guy.

I was waiting for him to pull out a knife or a pen and dig into the guy's knee, but it didn't happen of course. That's not the kind of president Tom Kirkman is.

I'm not sure I believe anything Langdon said about the mystery woman wanting Tom being named the designated survivor, but someone had to have made that decision.

But who and why?

This might be far out there, but did anyone else's hackles go up when Alex just casually mentioned that her mother was Russian?

Acting Chief of Staff - Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 14

It's not too far-fetched to think that the Russians were involved in the bombing and things with Alex just keep getting weirder and weirder.

Like how she completely took over the conversation with Moss.

It was strange that she would do that, and it seemed like she knew she overstepped her bounds when she looked back at Tom.

But she wasn't sorry about it. You could just see something in her face.

I'm telling you. She's involved.

Aaron quitting was a little bit of a surprise. He's still suspect, but could it have been a strategic move by Emily? What if Emily and Alex are working together?

What will happen if Aaron actually takes a job with Hookstraten like the previews suggest? Won't that send shockwaves all over?

"Commander-in-Chief" might not have been the most exciting hour of Designated Survivor, but it laid down some intriguing groundwork that's definitely going to keep me tuned in!

How about you? What did you think of this installment?

Will the mystery woman ever be found? Who hired her?

Could Alex be involved in the conspiracy? Do you like President Moss?
