Harlee ended up in Bianchi’s crosshairs when he set her up…for the murder of Nava’s ex-fiancee!
Below, TV Fanatics Stacy Glanzman, Jasmine Peterson, and Christine Orlando debate Woz’s commitment to Harlee, if Nava and Harlee’s breakup was the right move, and should the team be told what’s going on after Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 5?
Did you ever doubt that Woz would cover for Harlee?
Stacy: No, not at all. He might still be mad at her, but he also still cares about her, and more than that, he cares about Cristina. No matter how angry he was with Harlee, he wouldn't let her get sent to prison and leave Christina alone if he could help it.
Jasmine: Not for a second. He may be pissed at her right now, but she and Cristina are still family, and for Woz, family is everything. I also think it's just his natural instinct to cover for her.
Christine: There was never any doubt that Woz would protect Harlee. Even if he’s furious with her, he still thinks of her like a daughter, and for Woz, family is everything.
Was Nava right to break up with Harlee?
Stacy: I don't know if it was right or wrong, but it was definitely impulsive. He's not thinking clearly and acting on emotion. He may end up regretting that decision once things calm down again, especially after the killer is brought to justice.
Jasmine: I think so... Nava was good for Harlee, but Harlee isn't good for Nava. I think that's pretty much the extent of their relationship, and a relationship that isn't fair to both parties, is not ideal. He'll probably regret it, but I get it. Their timing isn't right.
Christine: His gut is telling him that something isn’t right, and it’s not lying. Nava may care for Harlee, but he realizes that she’s hiding things from him, and that deceit colors their entire relationship.
As much as I hate it for Harlee, I think Nava made the smart decision.
Should the rest of the team know that Bianchi is setting up Harlee?
Stacy: It's a tough call, if Harlee is legitimately concerned about a leak, but this is her team and she is going to need their help. I think she should trust them and let them all in.
Jasmine: It is tough. I'm not sure if she should just yet. There's a leak so letting too many people in on things when you aren't sure who is talking is risky.
It reminds me of a NCIS Gibbs' Rule: "The best way to keep a secret, keep it to yourself. Second best, tell one other person if you must. There is no third best."
Christine: I think she can tell them Bianchi’s setting her up without telling them everything. She and Woz can make it sound as though Bianchi is getting revenge for the arrest.
The team doesn’t need to know they were working with the FBI, but they should know the mob has Harlee and Woz in their crosshairs.
What was the most surprising moment from “Sweet Caroline”?
Stacy: That has to be Woz and Julia hooking up at the end. I didn't really see that coming, and to be honest, I didn't really sense any chemistry between them. I definitely got more of a brother/sister vibe from them.
Jasmine: I second that, Stacy. What even....no. No! I had their relationship all wrong, because I, too, thought it was more of a sibling thing. I will say it pleases me on some level that the most mature character of the bunch gets the most action, though.
Christine: That Stahl used Cristina to bug Harlee’s home, although it really shouldn’t have surprised me. Harlee did plant a camera in his place so I suppose that turn around is fair play, not that any of these characters ever play fair!
Did you have a favorite quote or scene from Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 5?
Stacy: I enjoyed Woz stealing the window from the IA guy for his office. That was pretty funny.
Jasmine: I loved when Woz said, "Every lie I tell is for the family." He's such a flawed character but he has this strong code that he lives by. That pretty much summed him up as a character in that one line.
Christine: Harlee head butting Bianchi’s enforcer. I didn’t see that coming (I’m guessing he didn’t either!) and it made me laugh.
