Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 14 Episode 8 Review: Close to Home

Ignorance sure is bliss, isn't it?

Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 14 Episode 8 follows Kim while she explores the homelessness epidemic in Los Angeles, as she continues to be the only Kardashian-Jenner looking to use their power to make a difference.

Kim's New Look - Keeping Up with the Kardashians

I don’t want to be naive anymore, and I just want to use my platform to get other people involved, and I really do want to learn and figure out what we can all do to fix this problem.

Kim

Even though I, personally, don't necessarily believe Kim has fully gotten past her naivety, she is making great strides, and it is absolutely wonderful to see.

It's so important to see someone with Kim Kardashian's power bringing attention to issues that affect millions of lives, like Planned Parenthood and now the homeless, and hopefully she continues to explore life outside of her bubble.

Unlike the Planned Parenthood tribute in a previous episode, Kim's entanglement with learning about the homeless population in L.A. and educating herself lasted an entire episode, which is what I'd like to see more of going forward.

From this experience, I’ve learned that it’s just not that simple.

Kim

The few minutes at Planned Parenthood weren't enough for anyone to really learn anything they couldn't already online, but this captured the epidemic in a new light, and actually gave those affected a platform to express how their lives are going.

And bless Kim Kardashian-West for finally realizing the power her family has been given and using it for something good. It's so fulfilling to see her realizing the influence she holds in the world, both financially and socially, and realizing she has the ability to bring attention to important things.

And if you're one of those people who still "hate" the Kardashians for being a "waste of fame," look at what Kim is doing now and tell me your opinion isn't changing. As much as anyone could, Kim has really grown over the last decade and she's truly become a better person than she was before.

That said, it's quite disappointing to see what her sisters were doing during this time.

While all three were present for their trip down Skid Row memory lane, only Khloe and Kim went to the shelter to actually educate themselves about the growing number of homeless people.

My dad used to drive us down Skid Row when we were little to show us that the rest of the world doesn’t live how we lived in Beverly Hills.

Kim

It looked like Khloe couldn't make it to Kim's trip to see the councilwoman, as she said she would go if she were in town, but it's just another instance of them taking their power for granted.

First of all, is Kourtney completely tuned out from the outside world? I understand not getting news from online sources which spew garbage about your family, but the news in general?

Kourtney could barely lift her eyes from her phone to care about the people on Skid Row, unlike Kim and Khloe, and she didn't even bother to tag along to see the shelter.

Kourtney is the worst case of this family using their power to elevate themselves above everyone else.

While the rest are still tuned in with the world (and Khloe and Kim are actually beginning to realize to expanse playing field to use their abilities to help), Kourtney has completely isolated herself and she really just doesn't care.

It's sad to speculate what this family could do if they all worked together to add some good to the world, but we'll never see it play out because there will always be a Kourtney standing in Kim's way and trying to get her back in her luxurious bubble.

Any way, the comedic side of the episode was very much about Kris, which is bizarre on its own.

Let’s just make Kris Jenner so uncomfortable... it’s fun.

Khloe

As someone with a terrible memory, I can see why Kris would feel the need to hire a scribe. It's hard to remember everything, but Kris took it a little too extreme, as usual.

Khloe's side is definitely the right one, because wow, how uncomfortable were those moments with the scribe typing their every word?

The comments both made about the other to make them uncomfortable as the scribe typed their conversation were a little strange, and Kris crying at her own joke was a very Kris Jenner thing to do, but it was just all-around weird.

Khloe may not have taken the correct apporach to make Kris realize the error of her ways, but it was the most effective, and it's time everyone stops doubting what Khloe can do when she's committed.

Too bad she wasn't as committed as Kim to educating herself about real-life issues, like the growing homeless population in Los Angeles, California.

Side note: can we talk about the debut of Kim's platinum blonde hair on the show? It's stunning, isn't it?
