Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5 Review: This Profound Legacy

On Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5 Jane faces the reality of having a child, Patterson and Zapata team up, and more than one major secret is revealed!

It was certainly fitting that the case of the week revolved around a bloodline and a teenager's connection to his parents, as Jane struggled with the news of her daughter's existence.

Secrets From the Past - Blindspot

Watching the amount of pain that Jane was suffering for how she had forgotten her own child and the blame that she put on herself was truly heartbreaking.

Jane has always been the type to try to protect everyone around her, and it was clearly hard for her to come to terms with not having been able to protect the one person who was closest to her.

How could I forget I had a child? Forget that I gave birth?

Jane

Not only does she have to deal with the double pain of having had a daughter taken away from her and then not being able to remember it, but she must also face her brother, the only other family she does have, using this situation to cause her more hurt.

Poisoned Blood - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

I was shocked by the amount of pure evil that Roman showed in this hour. We know that he's done awful things in the past, and we know that he's out to get Jane now, but somehow I still couldn't reconcile the Roman we got to know during Blindspot Season 2 with this monstrous version of him.

Jane: Did I give up my child?
Roman: She was beautiful. You used to sing to her, rock her to sleep in your arms.
Jane: That song... It's true.
Roman: Why would I lie? The truth is painful enough.

His deadpan delivery to Jane about the reality of her daughter and the circumstances surrounding her existence twisted the knife even further. It was harder and more vicious to watch than any gunfire the two have exchanged.

To make matters one thousand times worse, we finally discover what Kurt's been hiding about Berlin. HE KNEW ABOUT JANE'S DAUGHTER THE WHOLE TIME.

Weller: How do you know Jane?
Avery: She's my mother.

This revelation was insane to me. Not only did Kurt know that she had a child, but he'd met her in Berlin while they were both searching for Jane. I can't wrap my head around why Kurt would want to hide this from Jane.

Secret Keeper - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

The Weller's marriage has been so stable lately that I was pretty sure they'd be able to weather whatever bad thing Roman was holding over Kurt's head, but I think this might be the thing that is impossible to overcome.

If Jane finds out that Kurt kept her daughter a secret from her, I don't think she'll ever be able to forgive him.

Bluffing - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

At the end of "This Profound Legacy," Jane admitted to Kurt that she was going to abandon her plan of finding her daughter, hoping to prevent causing any pain to her child by ambushing her life. But she doesn't know that he daughter already knows exactly who she is...

I have so many questions about this Avery. How does she know Jane is her mother? How did she know all of her aliases and does she know the history behind them? Did she help Kurt find Jane? Where is she now? Is Kurt in contact with her? Did something bad happen?

New Blood - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

Again, that's what I love about Blindspot; one answer leads to many more questions.

On the topic of big reveals, Patterson and Zapata did some of their own digging and got a lead on who the mole might be.

I thought it was bold of Zapata to face Reade directly about his meeting with West, but that was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to confrontation -- especially after Reade acted a shady about new evidence popping up regarding Stuart's murder.

Teamwork - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

This girl power investigative duo happening with Patterson and Zapata is my new favorite thing ever, and I love watching them tackle whatever secrets everyone else is trying to hide. Patterson swallowed her pride by admitting the "spy bug" in her app, but Z didn't care.

Zapata's so supportive of her friends that she had Patterson's back no matter what and still managed to give Reade the benefit of the doubt when all signs pointed to him as the mole. Her loyalty is admirable.

Zapata: There has to be an explanation. Reade is family.
Patterson: So was Borden.

Reade failed to return the favor, however. One quizzical eyeball in his direction from Zapata and he was tossing out schoolyard punishments. The picture of professionalism. He seems to be hanging out in someone else's corner of the playground these days.

Skeletons - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

I just knew Hirst was too good to be true!

I was waiting to see when we might get some more background on our new boss lady and finally there's light being shined on her closet full of skeletons.

She's certainly not as squeaky clean as she presents herself, having hidden her relationship with a previous suspect, tampered with evidence, and is potentially framing Reade.

Hirst and Reade are working together to hide something, but from her little check-in with him, it seems like she's the one calling all of the shots. But if our girls are right about the frame-up it would seem that Hirst might not have Reade's back as thoroughly as he has hers.

Deadly Duo - Blindspot Season 3 Episode 5

I'm buzzing with excitement about where the rest of the season is going to go, and I can't wait for the laundry list of bombshells that are still waiting to be dropped.

Watching our favorite characters learn the crazy secrets what we know is just as exciting as when something new is revealed to us! We certainly won't be disappointed.

Do you think Kurt's secret will ruin his and Jane's marriage? Where's Avery?? And what the heck is going on with Reade and Hirst? Comment your thoughts below!
