Riggs' dad is a bastard, but we already knew that, right?

On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 11 life-changing decisions were made, but not all of them had happy outcomes.

And wouldn't you know it? Once again Riggs gets the short end of the stick. It's maddening, I tell you! Maddening!

But it also makes for good storytelling. I was much more invested in Riggs story than the case of the week which was embarrassingly predictable.

As soon as Secret Service Agent Peterson showed up, I knew he was going to be the bad guy. What was most disappointing was his sob story about why he did it.

Couldn't Matt Miller come up with something more creative than the guy lost all his money from a bad real estate deal? 

Why does there always have to be a sob story? Why couldn't the guy just be a bad guy without a reason?

That criticism aside, the parts of the case involving Ty and Riggs were wonderful. I would have been happy if the entire hour focused on Riggs and his interactions with Ty.

How great was it when he found Ty at the beach and sat him down to watch the sunset?

The kid had never been to the beach before, and I can't even imagine the awe he felt when he watched the sun go down over the ocean. I've seen several of those sunsets myself, and they are quite breathtaking. 

And did seeing three kids on a bike make anyone else think of Stranger Things? Sure it wasn't a Demogorgon chasing after those kids, but big, bad guys with guns were just as scary.

There are no redeeming qualities to Riggs' dad. Even in jail, he torments his son. As long as his dad is alive, Riggs will never be able to have a happy life. What a bastard he was to have someone kill an innocent puppy just to get his son's attention.

It's even scarier that the dad knows about Riggs' relationship with Molly and Ben. Riggs' dad could have done something much worse than having someone kill a little boy's dog. He could have hurt Molly or Ben instead. It's still not out of the realm of possibility.

It's not clear what Riggs' dad wants with him after all these years. Why is he trying to contact his son now? 

I love every aspect of Riggs' relationship with Molly and Ben. He's so happy!!! Whatever Riggs' plan is down in Texas, I hope it doesn't create issues with Molly. Riggs doesn't need any more heartbreak in his life. 

Why can't he deal with his dad and still have a solid relationship with Molly? If Murtaugh can handle bad and good in his marriage, Riggs could handle it in his relationship as well.

The problem with Riggs is that he keeps too much stuff too closely. He's trying to protect Molly and Ben, but he needs to open up to someone about what's going on. It was surprising he told Cahill about his dad's phone call.

If Riggs is gone too long, will Cahill come down to save him from doing something stupid? Will she team up with Molly? Or will Murtaugh be the one to save the day?

It seems like Murtaugh and Riggs have become distant. The banter was missing this hour which is usually the case when Murtaugh is teamed up with another detective, in this case, Agent Peterson. It was probably the worst matchup of the entire series.

And where were Bailey and Scorsese? Why weren't they on the case?

College can sometimes be tough for kids. Not only have they been yanked from the comforts of their homes, but there's also a lot of pressure to perform. College courses are much harder than high school courses.

It was surprising RJ dropped out of school considering he seemed psyched to be going in the first place. I would be as upset as Roger and Trish were if my kid dropped out without telling me but was pretending to still be in school. 

RJ's decision doesn't make Trish and Rog terrible parents. They raised their kid right, but there's only so much one can do as a parent. Eventually, kids need to find their own way, and parents need to let their kids find their way with as little interference as possible.

Trish and Rog did way better than I ever would if I were in that situation. They gave RJ some breathing room, and he came around with a reasonable solution to the problem. He was happy, and so were Rog and Trish.

And that brings me back what I said at the beginning of the article. Trish and Roger have a near perfect life. Sometimes they get minor ripples, but nothing upsets the apple cart. 

Riggs, on the other hand, is a whole different story. He doesn't get ripples; he gets earthquakes. His apple cart never sits straight.

It's not fair, but it's what brings me back to Lethal Weapon week after week. Many things make this show work, but Riggs' story is the best part.
