Dietland Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Plum Tuckered

at .

If you ever wanted to know how sex toys were made you were in for a real treat tonight.

I really enjoyed the way Dietland Season 1 Episode 5 began with Plum's voiceover talking about the way her dates begin. We've all been there – overthinking how a date is going to go before it even begins.

Unfortunately for Plum the thoughts she had were things she genuinely experienced time and time again. I wanted to smack the guy when he just gave Plum the flowers and told her it wasn't going to work out.

Harsh Reality - Dietland

It is disheartening to see the way human beings treat each other just because they look different. What makes it even worse is Plum wasn't even phased by it anymore. She's grown accustomed to men just putting her off because of the size she is.

I did appreciate Verena trying to get Plum to open up about her feelings, and her thoughts, about the man leaving the moment he saw her. Plum has this wall up, and she's trying to keep it intact, so she doesn't feel the pain.

Plum is so determined to get this surgery, but she's not looking at the big picture. Ignoring any ulterior motives Verena may have, at least she's trying to get to the root of Plum's problems. She's trying to get Plum to understand surgery isn't going to solve her issues.

Happy Plum - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

It was refreshing to hear Plum discuss the surgery with Dominic. It was a smart idea to get an outsiders opinion on it; though I wasn't shocked to hear Dominic wants Plum to do what she thinks is the right thing to do.

It was mildly difficult listening to Dominic talk about his family without revealing how undercover he really is to Plum. I know, I know – he needs to keep his cover because he is working for Kitty, but he was using Plum as an informant for goodness sakes.

I wasn't the only one who wanted to scream when Aiden ditched Plum at the restaurant, right? I was so angry especially after she had told those two ladies she was on a date. I did enjoy the way they showed everything around Plum shrinking down in size.

Date Two - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

It's so dehumanizing to be treated the way Plum was treated, and she wants to shrink herself down to make herself less noticeable. The entire act of Aiden leaving her in a public place, for an entire restaurant to see, was such a blow to Plum's psyche as she was slowly letting her guard down.

I found myself understanding the reason why Plum had put those guards up. It's easy to stay behind a wall because you need some type of protection from the harshness of this world. Plum was doing what she felt she needed to do.

Who else chuckled when Kitty was taking credit for going ahead with the publishing of the Jennifer manifesto? You had to appreciate how cunning Kitty was and how she had no problem using the power she was holding onto.

Kitty Being Nice - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

It was confusing why Cheryl was surprised by Kitty not looking at the Jennifer manifest as a way to make money. Kitty has always been about the bottom line, and now she's getting the chance to revel in being the number one person in the world.

No one else could take credit for what Kitty had done. It was amusing hearing Kitty go off on Cheryl and spurt out so much anger. You had to wonder what exactly happened to Kitty to make her want the power so badly.

It's still hilarious how Kitty turned to Plum to have her write about what Kitty is feeling regarding the Jennifer manifesto. You would think with as much anger Kitty had she would have been able to write at least one letter from the editor.

Stanley Wins - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

Jennifer didn't stay quiet for too long and took the life of a female victim, Stella Cross. It's an unusual twist to the narrative of going after just men who have done horrific things to women.

How is what Stella Cross was doing any different from what the men had done? She was responsible for normalizing rape but also making a profit off of her name by selling things to women as well. She was trying to play both sides.

I knew Stanley would use the Stella Cross murder to get power over Kitty, but I believe he's crossing the wrong woman. There's no way Kitty is going to go down without a fight.

Dominic Tells The Truth - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

The reason for Kitty's anger was finally revealed when she admitted she essentially slept her way to the top despite being the smartest person in the room. I figured she would take her anger out on Plum, too. Plum was going to lose her job anyway, might as well blame Plum for Kitty's downfall.

There was no way Plum was going to get on Kitty's good side despite her trying to speak to Kitty's ego. I question if Kitty sees some of herself in Plum.

Plum had another awful date, but she finally embraced the anger she had kept inside. It was awesome hearing her go off on Jack about him being a jerk. I can't say she was wrong in her assessment.

Plum Is Angry - Dietland Season 1 Episode 5

Dominic finally revealed who he was to Plum, but her anger was already at the breaking point. Instead of trying to understand why Dominic had lied to her she went straight to Calliope House.

Of course, the biggest shock was seeing Leeta's face on the screen in Times Square stating she is the face of Jennifer. I can't wait to see how Plum reacts to this bit of news.

Now it's your turn to tell me what you think.

Do you trust Verena? Do you think Dominic cares about Plum? Do you think Plum needs to embrace her anger more often?

Dietland Season 1 Episode 5 Quotes

Verena: I hear you, I do. I recognize how painful this is for you.
Plum: I wanna keep going, but may I make two requests?
Verena: Sure.
Plum: Could I meet the rest of my dates someplace? I don't love people, strangers, knowing where I live.
Verena: Of course. And?
Plum: And then could you tell them how I look before the date?
Verena: I actually did describe you, but...
Plum: I mean a picture is worth a thousand words.

Little girls were siding with terrorists while I just sat there waiting for a gentleman caller. I knew once he laid eyes on me I get what I call the stare. It sprang from a mixture of revulsion and disappointment.
