You Scores Early Season 2 Renewal at Lifetime

Lifetime is in it for the long haul with You

The cable network has placed an order for a second season of the series weeks ahead of its series premiere on September 9th.

The series focuses on Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a popular writer who finds himself getting a little too obsessed with Beck (Elizabeth Lail).

It all starts when Joe saves Beck from a near-death experience and goes to great lengths in order to get closer to her.

Lifetime dropped the first trailer earlier this year, and it showed Joe turning to murder among other wild things, all in the name of dragging her into his web of deceit.

The network confirmed the renewal at the TCA summer press tour, and it is set to follow the second book in the novel series by Caroline Kepnes which is aptly titled "Hidden Bodies."

The news is somewhat surprising when you consider the fact that Lifetime has been cleaning house as far as scripted content is concerned.

UnREAL was recently banished to Hulu to unspool its final season, and there's no guarantee that the network will even air it.

Mary Kills People is a co-production and has been renewed for a final season, so there's a good chance that You could be the sole scripted offering on Lifetime going forward.

While the scripted offerings may be diminishing, the network has set two new scripted series for the fall.

The first of which is Married at First Sight: Honeymoon Island, which focuses on past contestants from Married at First Sight getting a second chance to find happiness.

Yes, it's Lifetime's attempt at Bachelor in Paradise, and it sounds oddly intriguing. The couples need to decide at the end of the stay whether it's time to get married or call it a day.

Eight episodes have been ordered.

The other new reality series offering is Married at First Sight: Happily Ever After. That one will follow couples from previous seasons who decided to stay together.

Fan-favorites Shawniece and Jephte from Married at First Sight Season 6 will be part of the cast.
