This Is Us will not be leaving the air in the near future.
NBC has gifted the family drama with a three-season renewal, keeping the hit on the air all the way to 2022.
Extended renewals are rarely heard of in this day and age, but This Is Us is a robust performer in the ratings.
Despite dipping double digits year-to-year, This Is Us Season 3 averaged 8.3 million total viewers and a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49.
Those figures do not include delayed viewing. It swells to 13.8 million total viewers and a 3.8 rating with a week of DVR factored in.
This Is Us is NBC's highest-rated scripted series in the demo, so it makes sense that the network would want to keep the show around.
"In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of 'This Is Us' and we couldn't be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand," said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment.
"A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show's inventive and compelling storytelling."
This Is Us" and its cast have won many top awards, including two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, an Emmy Award, Golden Globe and SAG Awards for Sterling K. Brown for Best Actor in a Drama Series and three AFI Awards for Program of the Year.
