Shocker; another person has betrayed Lena.

The reason behind the tension between Lena and Andrea was finally revealed on Supergirl Season 5 Episode 6, and it is quite the story.

It turns out that Lena's adopted family were not the only ones to wrong her before Kara kept the truth about Supergirl from her. But, did the increase in betrayals produce more sympathy for Lena?

The beginning and the end of the friendship between Lena and Andrea was explored, and it was needed more than ever on a season that has slowly become befuddled and overwhelming.

Thanks to a Martian-less hour and (finally!) a deep dive into why Andrea is who she is, Supergirl is back on track.

We were able to understand why Lena is as guarded and untrusting as she is, and how Andrea played a major role in her life.

It now makes sense why Lena snapped when she found out Kara was Supergirl. That last betrayal is what has been turning her into a villain. And it is now safe to call Lena a villain.

Lena crossed a line that should stick with her forever.

She has been claiming that she wants to prevent people from harming others, but how could she say that when she was so willing to hurt Russell to get what she wanted?

I never needed them, any of them. That doesn't mean they can't be useful.

At this point, Andrea is looking a lot less like the villain of the season, which is what she was supposed to be. Or, what we thought she would be.

The good ol' bait-and-switch. Supergirl, you have done it again.

Lena was full of hypocrisies, while all Andrea wanted to do was protect her family.

Andrea was Lena's only true family though, and when Andrea chose her father over Lena, she was hurt beyond repair.

However, Lena's reaction to Andrea stealing the Medallion to save her father was unfair. If the roles were reversed and Lena's mother were still alive, she would have done the exact same thing.

That is where Lena's problem lies. She simply cannot place herself in other people's shoes and understand why they act the way they do.

Both Andrea and Kara were put into impossible positions that unfortunately led to hurting Lena. 

Lena is, all-in-all, an innocent bystander. It is totally understandable why Lena is so guarded and why she is in pain. Her life has been neither kind nor fair.

You see this? This is why I need to be in National City. There are people doing good there, who are trying to help. If I stay in Metropolis, I will always be the sister of the egomaniacal lunatic. But, if I go to National City, I can be the Luthor that shares her home with a Kryptonian, that helps her put the world back together instead of tearing it apart.

Her feelings are valid. Yet, Lena needs to be able to forgive and move on. Andrea and Kara are not her enemies -- Lena's true enemy is herself.

Once she realizes the real reason why she is so angry, Lena can redeem herself, and hopefully, move on. But, of course, her redemption probably will not happen until the season finale.

If anyone can save Lena from herself, it is Kara.

As we saw through the flashbacks, Lena was done trusting anyone until Kara came along. She was the one who broke through Lena's wall and gained her friendship.

I know you feel you've gone too far to ever be Russell again, but you're wrong. It is never too late to make things right, or, at least, better.

If Kara did it once, she can do it again. Lena might be angry at Kara now, but Kara is the person she cares about most in the world.

Plus, Kara is Supergirl. There is not much she can't do.

While Lena was the star of the hour, Andrea shone just as brightly.

Andrea is so much more than the woman who called deaths "flashy." She has been through so much, from her father contemplating suicide to an evil organization manipulating her into doing their bidding.

The owner of CatCo and the woman behind Obsidian Tech is as complex as you would want any character on any television show to be. Andrea makes questionable choices, but you cannot help but feel sympathy for her.

Russell's death might just be the last straw in turning her into a complete villain though, just like what Kara's betrayal did to Lena.

Supergirl Season 5 is all about the villains, and there are plenty of them to go around.

What made this particular hour stand out from the rest was that Supergirl only focused on the villains that are actually interesting.

Andrea: Every time I look at you, I'm reminded of all the horrible things I've done.
Lena: Funny, every time I look at you all I remember is pain.

And, Andrea and Lena happen to be very different from the villains we have seen on previous seasons.

If Supergirl continues to focus on the development of Andrea and Lena instead of Malefic, there might just be hope for them yet.

Plus, we got a mention of Cat Grant, who is so dearly missed. If only she could make a surprise appearance one of these days.

There were also the reappearences of Lena's ex-lover, Jack, and Lex Luthor.

Both of them played side characters to what was ultimately Lena's story, but it is always a treat for fans when old characters show up in new episodes.

Now, we just wait for Winn to return sometime this season, and hopefully, stay forever.

Is it bad that Kara was not as missed as she should have been on the episode dedicated to Lena and Andrea?

Kara is obviously the star of the show, and while she did appear in quite a few scenes, it was definitely not her show this time around.

That an episode can be so strong and at the same time not feature as much of the lead character as it normally does shows the strength of Supergirl's supporting cast.

If only they let them shine more often.
