High Potential’s Nick Wagner Should Be Front and Center in Roman’s Storyline

Ever since Nick Wagner was introduced during High Potential Season 2, he has remained an enigma.

Despite Morgan and Karadec’s best efforts, his true intentions stay veiled behind his devilish smirk.

After trying so hard to be a part of “the team,” when he finally gets in, he is nowhere to be seen. 

Soto trusts him with one of the most important secrets she has been working on, both on- and off-screen. We have yet to see the fallout from that.

Roman’s disappearance has taken a backseat for now; even Morgan seems to be focusing on pure police work.

It seems highly unlikely that Wagner would just back off after learning the reason why Morgan said yes to LAPD in the first place. 

We don’t even know if Soto told Morgan about it, or the rest of the team on this case. So, what is Wagner really doing behind the scenes? 

Nick Wagner: A Friend or A Foe?

So far into High Potential Season 2, Nick Wagner has held his cards very tightly to his chest. He seems to be always testing the waters, checking how far he can push someone, and backing away at the last moment.

This does not seem like a character who earnestly wants to join the force and lead the team. Karadec smells it, and so do we. 

Not much is known about his past besides the generational police work his family has passed down to him and the little subtexts about his time on the field.

Wagner is no slouch, for sure; he has proved it time and time again. And his “connections” make him all the more suspicious. 

What is his true agenda? Why is he so desperate to find Morgan? Is he a cog in the machine or the operator himself?

What if he is somehow related to Roman being on the run? After all, he did work with the FBI. And before his disappearance, we know Roman was working as an FBI informant.

Is this another good cop gone bad storyline? Is Wagner trying hard to cover up his tracks? 

There is literally no reason for Wagner to help Morgan find her ex. He doesn’t seem to be the kind who does anything out of the goodness of his heart.

The Roman Investigation Might Reveal More About Wagner

Wagner’s interest in Roman Sinqerra’s disappearance was out of place from the beginning. But what if it wasn’t out of place at all?

Let’s consider the possibility that Wagner is a corrupt cop. This isn’t the first time the show has had one, so maybe High Potential left clues in “Under the Rug.”

That would explain his unusual interest in Morgan as well. Trying to sniff out how much she knows, and figuring out who in the LAPD is in on it.

And looking at the massive web of connections Wagner has, it makes sense for Roman to drop off the radar, since he could trust nobody. Not even the FBI or LAPD.

The more the series delves into Roman’s history, the more there’s a good chance we will also learn more about Wagner. 

Wagner has already successfully infiltrated Morgan’s trusted circle. We have yet to see the blowout from her when she learns Soto let him in.

Imagine Wagner using this information as leverage on Morgan, like a dog on a leash. Always one step ahead of her, leaving just enough to keep her OCD on a knife’s edge.

Morgan might’ve game, but Wagner owns the playboard. Their cat-and-mouse chase will be as legendary as “The Final Problem.” 

Honestly, Nick Wagner sounds a lot better as a genius dirty cop than a goody two-shoes. The yin to Morgan Gillory’s yang.
