Jesse: Why was that doctor putting that thing in my mom's throat?
Natalie: To help her breathe.
Jesse: It's cause of that stuff she takes, isn't it?
Natalie: Have you ever heard of a bad habit? I used to bite my nails all the time. That was a bad habit. And sometimes a bad habit can be really hard to stop.
Jesse: My mom has a bad habit, doesn't she, and that's why I have to stay here tonight.
Natalie: It's a little more complicated than that.
Jesse: I don't want to stay here. I know how to take care of her. Look. [He opens his backpack.]
Natalie: You have Narcan in your backpack?
Jesse: My mom gave it to me in case she needs it.
Natalie: And you know how to use it?
Jesse: Uh huh. If I ever can't wake my mom, I tilt her head back and I squirt one of these in her nose. I've done it twice before.
Natalie: You have?
Jesse: I told you. I know how to take care of her. Please don't take her away from me.
