Recap

Esme sits in a cell and stares into the distance. A deputy comes to get her and secures her hands and feet in shackles.

Esme and Aaliyah visit a thriving downtown flea market and walk upon a white nationists rally. The rally gets violent as the counter-protestors scream in response to the leader's rhetoric.

Esme gets uncomfortable and asks Aaliyah, who is black,  if they can leave. They decide to leave just as a driver barrels into the crowd. A man is struck and the attackers are still at large.

Esme's girlfriend scours the internet to find the perpetrators by pretending to be a white nationalist and participating in their chat rooms about the attack. Esme is concerned about her girlfriend's behavior and obsession. Their friend, Jordan, was the victim of the attack and Aaliyah is incensed that people aren't fighting back.

Esme takes it personally. She believes it is toxic and would destroy her. They decide to table it for a moment and cuddle on the bed taking selfies and making out.

A prison card brings a skin head prisoner to Esme and the other prisoner spits in her face.

Esme and Aaliyah have dinner and she acknowledges that she's sorry. Aaliyah gets a lead on the driver from the White Nationist chat site. Esme gets upset and plans to go out but the person is outside to meet her. She asks Esme to go outside and pretend to be a white supremacist.

Aaliyah begs her to go get information from the man. Aaliyah believes he knows some things about the attack.

Esme steps down to meet him and he asks her to go for a drink.

Back in the holding cell, her attorney says she can make a formal statement of remorse and get second degree murder instead of first. Esme refuses because she is not remorseful. Her lawyer insists but she refuses.

Her lawyer gives her clothes to wear and lets her know the trial starts in half and hour.

At the bar, Esme flirts with the guy. He tells her he was scared she was a cop. They flirt and he seems interested in her.  He knows about her history. He expresses his disgust for black people and she asks does he know the driver. He implies there are bigger plans and gets them another drink.

Esme gets home and confronts Aaliyah on using her back story. Esme calls the police and gives them the information. The detective is not impressed with the information and tells her to let them do their job. Esme is disgusted and Aaliyah apologizes and asks can they drop it.

In court, Esme is led to the table. Aaliyah sits behind her.

Aaliyah arrives home and Esme has been talking to 88. He invited her to their compound.  She is determined to go.

She tells the story about her brother and his friends brutally beating a black child while she watched. She accepts his invitation and they tearfully say goodbye.

When she gets outside, he sends a stranger to get her. He questions her intent. He invites her in the car after the verbally spar.

She leaves with him as Aaliyah watches from the window. 

They arrive at the compound and the drivers stands in front of her and tells her she looks familiar. 

The courtroom fills with White Nationalists that she doesn't know.

Before the crime, they hang out with other Nationalists and she tells them how they met. They're impressed with her marksmanship. They question why she lives in Brooklyn and she makes it seem as though she hates blacks as well.

They explain how their actions are self defense against the genocide of their people. 88 is called away by their leader. They keep alluding to something big in the works.

She walks inside the house and sees a large Nazi flag and the vehicle that hit her friend Jordan. She approaches it and sees the crack from the impact of his body. She  calls Aaliyah and the leader discovers her, approaches her and demands her phone. He demands she unlocks the phone and physically forces her to put the code in.

He sees the screensaver is a picture of her and her black girlfriend. He slaps her across the face. He ties her up and texts her girlfriend so she thinks she's okay. He taunts her and she cries on the ground. She begs for her release but he remembers her from that day.

He rants about blacks and mulattos and that he saw a white girl kissing her black girlfriend and that's why he drove into the crowd.

She promises she won't say a word. 88 tries to get him to leave her alone but the leader prepares to hit her with the crow bar. 88 attacks the leader and they fight. She gets free and gets into the car. She drives thru the wall and calls Aaliyah,

She tells Aaliyah what happened and she almost died.

Back in court, Aaliyah is called to the stand and the White Supremacists make loud coughing noises and are removed forceably from the court.She drives the car back to her apartment and gets out. The police are there. They inspect the vehicle. She runs into Aaliyah's arms. In the truck, there was a bomb.

It blows and kills 6 people.

At the compound, forensics scours the place. The White Nationalists have cleared out. Aaliyah tells her not to blame herself.  Esme questions how they knew to set her up. Aaliyah insists they go home. Aaliyah leaves, but Esme finds a piece of paper with a gun shop name on it.

She drives to the gun shop and calls Aaliyah. Esme tells her she needs space. She arrives at the gun shop.  Aaliyah thinks she's mad at her, but she insists she is not.

Aaliyah calls and confronts Esme who has been living in her car staking out the gun shop. She knows she's lying and struggling.

Days later, Esme sleeps in her car and ignores calls from Aaliyah, She pleads with her to let her help find them. Esme won't tell her where she is. She's been gone for two weeks.

On a rainy night, she sees the leader and 88 go into the gun shop. She follows them in to confirm their identities. She calls Aaliyah who offers to call the police. Esme doesn't believe the police will help.

She is determined to stop them herself. She tells Aaliyah she loves her and then hits the men with her vehicle while on the phone with Aaliyah.

Back in court, Aaliyah is questioned about the phone call. She tells them what she feels Esme meant. And then she asks Esme can they go home.

Outside the courtroom, protestors and counter protestors stand in support for and against Esme.

She was found guilty and transported Her transport van passes Aaliyah as it leaves the courtroom.
