Danny makes a deal with incarcerated arch enemy Victor Lugo to find an escaped cop killer, Derek Malbatten. Lugo knows where he may be hiding, but wants to come along for the ride to find him. Danny agrees to temporarily spring him from prison but doesn’t trust him. 

Victor leads them to Molly Chavez, Derek’s girlfriend. Molly sets up the ESU team by sending them to a booby trapped apartment, but Victor manages to warn Danny before it blows up. When Molly is released from custody, they follow her and she leads them to Derek, who opens fire on police and is killed. Danny tells Victor that he might get a reduced prison sentence for his help. 

The NYPD plans to offer the Sergeant’s exam, which it hasn’t done in six years. Frank wants Jamie to take the exam but is reluctant to push him. Frank asks Eddie if she knows if Jamie will be taking the exam. She says she doesn’t think so because Jamie gave his application to her.

Frank does visit Jamie and push him to take the exam, but Jamie says he is happy where he is but feels the Reagan family name means that he is expected to want more. Both Frank and Henry are disappointed when Jamie says he’s helping Eddie study for the exam but not taking it himself. 

Someone backs into Anthony’s car with their Mercedes and then takes off. When he tracks down the license plate number, it turns out to be Jack Boyle, whom Erin is currently dating. As Anthony saw the man in the car kissing a woman, he tells Jack to stay away from Erin because she deserves better.

Turns out, one of Jack’s colleagues was driving while Jack was in Boston that day. Anthony apologizes to Erin. Although she assures him she can take care of herself, Erin admits that it was sweet for him to look out for her.
