Dr. Brennan has been asked to be the keynote speaker at the Forensic Science convention. She attends with Cam, Angela, and Hodgins, and the group seems to enjoy checking out gadgets and getting bombarded by fans. That is, until they run into a couple of rivals.
Hodgins is approached by an old rival from school named Leona Saunders, and Brennan runs into her publishing rival, Tess Brown.
Just as Brennan is about to give her speech, an alarm sounds. The place is on fire, and a dead body is burning in the plumbing closet.
Booth arrives and group investigates the murder. The team is also joined by Wendell Brey, who announces he is in remission thanks to a clinical trial Dr. Brennan recommended.
Unfortunately for Hodgins, the victim turns out to be Leona Saunders, who he had just been arguing with earlier. Now, for the third time, Hodgins finds himself to be a murder suspect.
Wendell calls Booth after his clinical trial appointment, worried since one of his friends in the trial died earlier that week. Booth tells Wendell to quit feeling sorry for himself and keep fighting.
But Hodgins is cleared and able to continue investigating the murder. Tess Brown is also a suspect, but it turns out that another attendee at the convention was the murderer.
At the end of the episode, Brennan is finally able to give her speech. It begins with a joke that Booth urged her not to tell, but to his surprise, makes everyone at the convention laugh.
