In the middle of an investigation, an explosion and an ancient artifact combine to send Rick Castle to an alternate universe where he and Beckett have never met. He's never set foot in the 12th precinct. Never written Nikki Heat. He's lost most of his money but his mother has become a huge success and Alexis moved to LA to live with her mother.

Castle must convince Captain Beckett to let him help with the investigation so he can find the stolen artifact and get back to his timeline. In doing so, he finds that this version of Beckett lacks the drive of the one he knows as she settles for less than justice during the case. He voices his disappointment and heads off on his own to find the artifact.

Taking his words to heart, Beckett follows but things take a turn and shots are fired as Rick holds the artifact. He jumps in front of Kate, saving her life as he falls unconscious. When he awakens he's back in his own timeline again.

Rick decides there's only one way to get past all they've dealt with and that's to move forward. The two get married in the Hamptons with Jim, Martha and Alexis in attendance.
