Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 16 revolves around difficult situations.

Asher sees a patient who is in labor. The patient's husband, Quentin, seems agitated and worried about things such as whether he left the oven on. He wants to leave but is convinced to stay.

However, as soon as the baby is born, Quentin suddenly says that isn't his son and runs away, still holding the umbilical cord scissors. Security tries to stop him, leading to an accident in which he falls into an MRI machine and the scissors get lodged in his neck.

Any rescue is dangerous because if the MRI is turned off, the scissors will fall out of Quentin's neck, and he will likely bleed out. Archer and CFD make a plan after Charlese gives Quentin a sedative, and Grace uses a 3-D printer to make plastic instruments so Archer can operate.

Meanwhile, Tanaka-Reed is unhappy to be assisting on a procedure as basic as an appendectomy. Later, he faints in the OR after passing a lot of gas. Marcel quickly diagnoses and resolves the problem, but Tanaka-Reed feels that now he is the butt of everyone's jokes.
