Recap

Roarke is watching Javier bring something from the plane with a sad smile when Ruby joins her. Ruby notices and asks what’s wrong. Javier hands Elena an urn and Elena explains this is Joy Summers and she is fulfilling Joy final wish.

A younger Roarke seeks guidance from her uncle’s shrine. She looks through her closet and pulls out a white suit.

Segundo holds a red hibiscus flower and turns to see Roarke dressed all in blue. He offers her the flower for luck on her “new journey.” She thanks him but admits she feels completely unprepared. He drives her to the dock to meet her first guest.

He drops her off with words of encouragement. She still looks terrified. The guest is disembarking the plane.

Elena welcomes Joy Summers, her first guest.

Sitting down together, Joy shares that her dream has always been to build an empire that would make the world a better place. Her plans were derailed by marriage, having three kids, and then divorce.

Her kids are nearly all grown but she’s accepted it’s too late to build an empire now. Her fantasy is to find her own happiness, which she lost somewhere along the way. She wants a personal happiness that will last.

Before she heads to her room, she mentions that Elena seems out of sync with the island. Roarke admits this is the first time she’s welcomed a guest. Joy reassures her that she has complete confidence in Elena.

In the present-day, Joy’s three grown children, Bridget, Ross, and Frank, sit waiting when Roarke and Ruby bring the urn into the room.

Ross is in a hurry to get back to his work. Frank is unsympathetic. Elena explains to Ruby that Joy built a multi-million dollar business over the past ten years. Frank explains that Ross and Bridget plan to sell it off. Elena reveals that Joy’s final fantasy was for her three children to spread her ashes together. Joy had planned this when she realized how ill she was.

Ross and Frank rush to get it done so they can go their separate ways. Bridget thanks Elena for honoring Joy’s wish.

On the beach, Bridget starts with a farewell to her mother. Ross interrupts and Frank and him start to argue. The guys try to open the urn but are unable. Roarke arrives to explain that the urn will not open until the three of them are prepared to spread the ashes in a spirit of mutual love and respect.

The siblings express disbelief. Roarke leaves them to it, offering them the run of the Island’s amenities.

Frank points out the float plane to Ross.

Javier runs to Elena to point out someone’s stole his plane. Elena reassures him everything’s fine. The plane crashes into the water.

The three get out of the plane, still arguing. Ross decides they’ll walk back to the resort and puts Frank in charge of the urn.

Ruby and Isla luxuriate in bed together. Ruby wants to spend more time getting to know Isla, but Isla deflects.

In the past, Roarke approaches Joy in a big kitchen as she gets some things out of the fridge. They discuss why they couldn’t sleep, respectively. Joy plans on making some truffles.

The siblings are still arguing. Ross calls Bridget “Nicky” which triggers her to anger. Roarke appears and tells them they’re going into time-out.

They fall down through the beach and land in a room, their childhood rec room. It’s a perfect replica except there is no door.

They continue to argue as they try to find a way out. Frank finds a VHS tape with a cat face drawn on it like Joy used to do for their lunch bags. It’s addressed to Ross, Francis, and Bridget. It’s from their mom.

They play the tape and it’s Joy, in the later stages of her illness talking to them. Her wish for them is to stick together rather than slipping away from each other now that she’s died.

They all admit how much they miss her.

Ruby finds Javier fixing the plane’s fuel pump. She confides her concerns about Isla and their relationship. Javier susses out that Elena doesn’t know about Isla.

In the past, Elena confides her continued insecurity to Segundo. She brings Joy to the portal door and they step through together.

They come to a fork in the path. A basket is on one side and a machete is stuck in a stump on the other.

Joy immediately decides the basket is more her speed and heads down that path.

In the basement, Ross continues to bug Bridge by calling her Nicky. It’s something he started when he was fifteen and is spelled “NCE” for “Not Cute Enough”. Frank tries to calm her but she turns on him too for telling her that if she’d been better, their father wouldn’t have left. Ross points out Bridget was born out of their parents trying to save their marriage.

The argument escalates and Elena appears on the TV expressing her disappointment in the kids’ inability to hear their mother’s message. She decides they need more motivation and the basement floor becomes actual lava.

In the forest, Joy recites a nursery rhyme and keeps finding random bits of laundry and trash.

Javier finds Ruby at the bar, waiting for Isla. Javier has a beach picnic planned for him and Helene.

Javier warns her that people aren’t always what they seem on Fantasy Island.

Joy finds Elena at the end of the path. Her basket is full of socks and wrappers and she’s pushing an old bike. Elena points out that she didn’t have to pick up all those things along the way.

Joy puts everything down and she and Elena find themselves back at the fork in the path. Elena encourages Joy to try the machete path.

In the lava basement, the siblings realize this is the game they played as kids. They work together to remember and re-enact the path to the door they’d use. Once they’re together, a door appears and they use the “Summers-sault” move to get out. They find themselves back in the shallow water of the beach.

Frank realizes he left the urn behind. Ross takes him to task and Frank slugs him. They fight. In the aftermath, Bridget leaves them lying on the beach, nursing their wounds. When they see her leave, they scramble to catch up.

Joy uses the machete to cut her way to a river. She fords the river on foot, despite a fear of whatever might latch onto her in the water.

Walking the path together, the brothers apologize for the things they said to Bridge when they were kids. She accepts the apology.

Elena meets Joy at the end of the machete path and gets her to describe how she feels. Joy admits she’s feeling fierce and triumphant. Elena points out she is able to do so much more than she thinks.

The path leads to a cacao grove where Joy uses her machete to break open a pod.

Ross takes the opportunity to apologize for leaving Joy’s care in her final days to Bridge and Frank.

They start to good-naturedly josh each other. They emerge from the trees to find Elena holding the urn standing in the cacao grove.

Past Joy and Elena can see the siblings and present-day Elena as they explore the grove. Joy is so inspired by the vision. She plans to build an empire and enlists Elena’s help.

Ross realizes the Island’s cacao seeds are the secret to their mother’s truffles. Frank suggests this is the perfect place to spread Joy’s ashes. The siblings all place their hands on the urn and it opens for them. They pour out the ashes.

Ruby walks alone along the beach. Isla finds her and they kiss.

Elena sees Joy off at the dock and tries her first batch of Island cacao made truffles and declares them perfect.

The siblings leave, agreeing to keep the business and the arrangement with Roarke the same as when their mother was alive.

Fantasy Island Season 2 Episode 5 Quotes

Ross: The plane wouldn’t do what I told it to do!
Frank: Oh, well, why didn’t you use that condescending tone that works so well for you on the ground?

Segundo: How do you feel, Elena?
Roarke: Like I’ve been pushed to the center of a stage, and nobody has told me what the play is.
