Law & Order: SVU Season 18 Episode 8 revolves around the disappearance of a six-year-old boy, Theo. Theo's mother puts his headphones on him and puts him to bed before inviting a ton of guests into her apartment. In the morning, the nanny, Gloria, finds the front door open and the boy missing. Theo's mother, Nadine, is hungover and half out of it and insists Theo is here somewhere. She can't find her phone to call the cops.

SVU investigates and confirms Theo has been kidnapped but there is not enough evidence for an Amber Alert. Nadine's ex-wife, Fran, is interviewed. Fran was about to sue for custody and resents being made a suspect. The investigation also leads to an ex-boyfriend of Nadine's who has a criminal record and was violent towards Nadine. However, this turns out to be a dead end.

While the case is in progress, Benson struggles to find time to spend with her boyfriend, who wonders if she is really interested in the relationship, while Rollins wonders if she is any better a mother than Nadine.
