Law & Order Season 22 Episode 1 revolves around the DA office's attempt to press charges against the mobsters who killed Ava and Vince.

At first, this seems like an open and shut case. But when the defense manages to suppress the video taken from Ava's phone, Price is left with few options if he wants to charge both Serenko and his boss. He wants Nicole to testify, which Benson doesn't think is a good idea, but Benson agrees to run it by her.

However, when snipers shoot at Nicole, Rollins gets hit and ends up in the hospital in critical condition. Nicole is traumatized and in no condition to testify. Benson sends her to relatives in Toronto. McCoy wants a court order extraditing her, but Sam sides with Benson. Nicole would not be a good witness in her current mental state.

The only option left is to cut a deal with Sarenko. Price hates the idea because Sarenko is a murderer, but McCoy says Rublev is a higher priority. After Sarenko testifies, an angry Stabler confronts Price.

Meanwhile, Rublev offers to share insider info about Putin with the State Department in exchange for immunity. Price refuses to make the deal, but that decision may have tragic consequences.
