Madam Secretary Season 5 Episode 15 revolves around a controversy caused by a girl with a cell phone on a plane to Afghanistan.

Elizabeth and her staff head to Kabul to finalize a deal with the local government that will allow them to withdraw US troops and instead offer financial aid so Afghanistan can defend itself. However, the deal is put in jeopardy after Matt makes small talk with a native girl on the plane and an American teenager films it and narrates it, making it sound like the beginning of a romance.

Matt is offended, but worse is the fact that the girl is hiding in the Embassy from her family, who literally wants to kill her, and many locals believe the US has kidnapped the girl and are demanding her release. The President of Afghanistan refuses to do anything about the situation because he fears the Taliban using it to gain power and won't sign the deal until the girl is released. And the only solution the Minister of Education comes up with is for the girl to be married off to a man twice her age, which upsets Matt further.

Meanwhile, on the homefront, Henry has to deal with Will showing up with a suitcase after Will and his wife decide to get a divorce.
