Sibeth and Tomarda ready their weapons for attack. Kofun is brought to Sibeth. He tries to talk to her, but she doesn't listen to him. She holds him prisoner.

Maghra and Tamacti Jun lay to rest the dead witch-finders. As they discuss their plan of action on the oncoming war, Baba's party arrives in Pennsa right when Sibeth launches her attack. Bombs fly into Pennsa one after the other.

One such bomb hits the queen's residence, where Maghra has gone to get baby Wolffe. She is buried under rubble.

While knocked out, Maghra remembers how she and Baba Voss met in Alkenny while she was running away.

Haniwa, Baba, Ranger, and Wren come to rescue those buried under the rubble.

Sibeth tries to manipulate Kofun. Tomarda tries to recruit Kofun. He doesn't fall for any of them.

In Pennsa, they realize that they are being sieged. While discussing the following steps, Maghra finds out that Harlan is dead. Haniwa gives Sibeth a key Harlan gave her.

Kofun arrives in Pennsa with Sibeth's ultimatum. She wants Maghra to surrender, or she will lay Pennsa to waste. Everyone discourages her from going.

Maghra realizes that Harlan might have been prepared for the war, so he gives her a key. They find that the key opens a box that has a map in it. The map lays underground tunnels out of the city.

Haniwa and Wren find the tunnels. In the past, Baba promises to defend Maghra and the children as they confess their love for each other.

Maghra and her group decide to evacuate the city through the tunnels. Everybody leaves.

While walking, they realize that Baba has turned and left the crowd. He and Ranger go after Sibeth.
