The Kazanjian brothers save criminal accountant Frank Merwin from an asssassination attempt. Dominic's doctor wants to try bringing him out of his coma, which Liz favors, so that she might get the answers she seeks. Liz forces the man tailing her to take her to Katarina. Katarina wants to know if Liz is on her side. Liz tells her she wants answers first. Red puts the Task Force on the tail of the Kazanjian brothers. They will try to capture Merwin to smoke out the Kazanjians. Ressler suggests that Liz turn in Katarina. Merwin calls his daughter then Aram tracks his phone to a hotel in Virginia. During the firefight that follows, Liz determines that the Kazanjians know Katarina. Ressler has Aram trace Merwin's last call. It's to Stanley Birch, who runs a chess shop. Aram gives Red the name before he tells Cooper. Dembe and associates detain the Kazanjians. Red collapses when he and Liz argue about Katarina. She calls Katarina to help her get Red to his doctor. Katarina tells Liz that she has been accused of stealing the Sikorsky Archive, a collection of blackmail intel, and that there's a contract on her head as a result. Red had a cerebral edema. Red wants Cooper to forget about the Kazanjians and to pursue Merwin instead. He promises Cooper he won't kill Katarina. It's all a test Red set up for Liz to find out whose side she is on. The Task Force captures Merwin but only after he's opened his briefcase, with the chopper blades scattering the papers inside. Liz passes the test. Merwin won't cooperate. Liz admits to Katarina that she's on her side. She decides to embrace her inner darkness.
