The Good Doctor Season 5 Episode 18 is about the relationship between fathers and sons.

Asher's parents come to St. Bonaventure. His father has been given a year to live with lung cancer and they are hoping G-d will grant a miracle since their son is a doctor. Shaun takes the case. Asher's father collapses while in an MRI machine and during surgery, Shaun discovers the cancer is worse than he thought. Asher's dad only has weeks.

Asher's father wants to observe Shabbos, but it ends in an argument when Asher refuses to say the prayer for healing for him, announces he is gay, and storms out. Soon, Shaun comes up with an alternative treatment, but Asher's father refuses it because he wants to die at home.

Jordan encourages Asher to stop being a jerk and to let his father make peace before he dies.

Asher's mother gets angry when Asher supports his father's choice to end his life. Asher says that she loves his father and doesn't want him to die but could end his suffering.

Meanwhile, Morgan considers an offer from NYU while working with a patient who has lost all ability to communicate since a stroke, and Shaun and Lea decide to get married at city hall.
