Recap

The dancers at the strip club go on for the finale. Backstage, Midge asks Russell if it's the finale. He explains that Lydia moved back to Ohio without her snake or dog. Midge notices the curtain is stuck, but Russell says it's not their problem.

Midge heads out on stage. The band doesn't soften, the mic cuts out, the spotlight is late, and the curtain comes down suddenly. Backstage, Midge complains to Boise, but he doesn't care.

Midge "hires" a new curtain guy. She gives the dancers notes on the finale. One of them mentions that it's movie night and asks if Midge is going. She explains that she's already late for something.

Midge has a date with Liam, a doctor. He talks about living in Spain. She says she was supposed to go to Spain for work, but it fell through. He asks her how long she has lived on the Upper West Side.

Midge explains that she lives in the apartment in which she grew up. Liam keeps talking to her in Spanish. When the waiter arrives, the doctor orders for her Spanish. He asks her where she gets the ideas for her jokes.

Midge excuses herself to make a phone call. She dials and says, "I wore the wrong hat," then hangs up.

Back at the table, Midge drinks while Liam keeps speaking Spanish. Susie arrives, telling Midge that she needs to come home, her son is very sick. Liam offers to go as well. Susie says he needs a doctor. Liam says he's a pediatrician. Susie and Midge leave quickly without him.

It's movie night at the strip club. Midge and Susie eat Chinese food and watch Easter Parade. Susie apologizes for not knowing Liam was a doctor. She notes that Midge has been on three bad dates this month. Susie suggests dating someone in the business -- a ventriloquist.

Midge asks Susie about her relationships. Susie says Midge is her life, and she has no time for relationships.

Susie watches a Hitchcock interview on television. Abe walks the halls, unable to sleep. Abe knocks on midge's bedroom door, complaining that Susie is watching television too loudly and it's midnight.

Rose gets up. Abe and Rose complain that Susie has been here long enough. Abe also mentions he told Asher he could stay with them.

Zelda gets up, asking if anyone wants anything. Midge asks why she's still up, and Zelda says Susie still has a plate and glass out, which she will need to wash.

Susie asks if the television is too loud, offering to turn it down. Abe and Rose assure her it's okay. Susie says she will move out soon. They bid her goodnight.

Abe is at the Voice office when Asher arrives. Abe assures Asher that he has an attorney, Kessler, that will help them through the business with the FBI. Abe invites him in, but Asher says he is fine to sit outside the office and wait.

Mei and Joel unpack at Joel's new apartment. Shirley calls, asking where he'll be on Friday night. Joel keeps asking her why. She says she loves him and tells him to wear his nice blue suit on Friday.

Joel tells Mei she needs to meet his parent. She refuses, adamantly, saying it will be an issue. Mei makes a list of all the horrible slurs for Asian people she has heard in her life.

Joel says that the biggest problem for his parents won't be that she's Chinese but that she's not Jewish. Joel reminds Mei that her parents know about them.

He complains that his mother keeps sending him girls, intends to send one to the club on Friday, and even to the club on Friday, and it won't stop until he's married. Mei says that she's okay being a mistress. Joel is hurt. Mei leaves.

At the Stage Deli, Susie has lunch with her gangster buddies. She mentions she's looking for a place to live. They say they have a place she could look at that might suit her.

Midge starts approaching random men on Christopher Street. She asks a man where a woman might have a drink with another lady, like a bar. One thinks she's a cop. Midge keeps approaching the men, but they keep passing her.

Midge sits on a bench. A well-dressed man in a Dior suit tells her he knows of a few places she could check out. She insists it's for a friend.

The man asks Midge if her friend looks and dresses like her. Midge laughs at the thought of Susie dressing like her. The man tells her there's a new place that is very welcoming. Midge gets out her pocketbook to write down the address.

Abe and Asher call the lawyer Michael Kessler. Abe asks if Michael spoke to someone at the FBI field office like he said he would. Michael assures him that their infraction was minor. They just need to make a statement, and it'll be over.

At dinner with Midge, Asher, Abe, and Rose, the mood is jovial as Asher recounts an anecdote about Dorothy Parker, one about when he and Abe used to be furniture movers, and one about when Rose and Asher used to date. Midge is surprised, wondering when they could have gone out. They explain that it was when Rose and Abe had temporarily broken up.

Abe steps out of the room, silently furious. He gets another bottle of wine. Asher asks to stay another night. Abe opens the next bottle of wine, looking steamed.

The gangsters take Susie to an apartment/office -- their safehouse. There is a giant bloodstain on the floor. They explain that they don't need any money from her just yet, as it's currently just sitting empty. It can be her office, too. They ask ther to give them a cut once she gets established.

Midge takes Susie to the lesbian bar. They find a table and sit. Susie is still going on about her office until she finally notices where they are. Susie asks Midge why she brought her to a lesbian bar. Midge says she doesn't care about Susie's personal life; she just wants her to be happy.

Susie says she knows how to find lesbian bars in the Village, affronted that Midge would try to meddle like this. Susie drinks her drink, explains that she's only focusing on work right now, and leaves.

Susie goes to her usual bar and grabs Alfie, the magician.

At the strip club, Boise comes into the dressing room and tells the dancers to get ready. Midge tells him from now on, he needs to knock. The women close the door in Boise's face.

Susie reminds Boise that it's payday. He gets her money from the cash box and hands it over. Susie ignores Midge and leaves. Boise orders Midge to the stage.

Midge does a set about how the men's wives know where their husbands are and that those women have secret lives of their own. The women in the audience love the act, and the men laugh, too. Midge heads backstage.

Agent Webber from the FBI visits Asher, Abe, and Mr. Kessler for an official statement. He says he is here to help close the matter of the incident that Abe recently wrote about in the Voice. They establish that it was pretty harmless.

Agent Webber says it's fairly open and shut. He is about to leave when Abe throws Asher under the bus, saying Asher acted alone and Abe never went into the building. Abe mentions that Asher also vandalized a stock exchange in 1923.

Kessler takes Webber into the other room to defuse the situation. Asher confronts Abe. Rose enters. Abe asks how long the two of them went out. Rose insists she told Abe many times that she and Asher dated, but he never listened.

Abe storms off and locks himself in his room. Rose reminds him that he broke up with her. Abe emerges, telling Asher he could have shtupped Dolores. Asher says Dolores wanted to sleep with everyone.

Asher gets an idea for a play and grabs a pen. He gets his suitcase and hat and leaves, kissing Rose's hand on his way out.

At Joel's club, Joel and Archie have been tasked with picking a ring for a customer's proposal. Midge arrives, and Joel lets her in. He makes her a martini. She asks if she can do a set. He's surprised to learn Midge is doing comedy at a strip club.

Mei arrives, wondering if MIdge's presence is Shirley's way of trying to get them back together. Mei heads into Joel's office. Joel says Midge can have ten minutes onstage. The woman being proposed to says yes.

Susie tends to Alfie in her office. She puts a carpet over the bloodstain and makes a list of the things she needs to fix and replace around the office. A flower delivery arrives from Midge with a card asking for forgiveness.

Sophie Lennon shows up at Susie's office. She complains that she can't get work and her lifestyle is unsustainable. She wants to be the host of a new NBC, but no one will give her the time of day -- Harry Drake won't return her calls,

Susie refuses to work with her again. As Sophie leaves, Susie relents and agrees to help if Sophie promises to leave her alone after.

The dancers at the strip club are much more confident with their group routine and move in sync. Midge says goodnight to the audience and falls into the orchestra pit on her way offstage.
