On The Mysteries of Laura Season 2 Episode 2, Laura and her team investigate the recent murder of a cancer patient named Nina. At first the crime scene appears to be a suicide, but Laura doesn't think things add up. As the team investigate further into Nina's past they find out she's been faking cancer this entire time and Laura immediately thinks she was working the cancer angle to make money as well as make friends. 

As they dig in further, they find out Nina and a friend had created a charity for cancer patients, but it turns out Nina has been taking the money without the friend knowing what was going on. Through their investigation they figure out Nina was in cahoots with a friend named Ted and when Nina decided she no longer wanted to take part in the ruse, Ted killed her and took the rest of the money. The team quickly finds Ted and he's instantly arrested and confesses to the crime.

Meanwhile, on the relationship front, Laura and Tony are still going strong but Laura also has feelings for Jake. When Laura tried to reassure Jake that what she has with Tony isn't serious, he tells her it doesn't matter to him because he wants her happy. Laura is shocked by these turn of events and when Jake tries to press her for how she really feels, she refuses to say anything.
