The family was locked up in an astral plane, and it quickly emerged that Hope was the one behind it, while Freya helped her out. 

The family had to bring keys to the door to move on to the next chapter.

It helped them all get to grips with the past, and we learned that Hayley was keeping up to speed with Klaus while she was apart from him. 

We also learned that Elijah had a hand in picking Hope's name. 

When it was all said and done, Elijah had his memories back and he got to go and save Antoinette. However, he decided their relationship was over and that he needed to come to grips with Hayley's death. 

Rebekah admitted to Marcel that she was trapped in the curse and had so much more to live for, and they shared a kiss. 

Elijah went to the bayou to mourn Hayley, knowing there would need to be payback for what happened.
