A man is running away from an unknown entity, and when he opens the door, he finds a staff member, but he's soon the only one around.

He wakes up from a dream but dies.

John and Mary work on a motorcycle, and John offers to teach Mary about motorcycles, and it's revealed that Mary's parents taught her everything she knows.
-
John tells Mary she should get a job at the garage when she's done with hunting, but Mary says she may have to leave Lawrence when she leaves hunting due to the memories.
-
Millie and John talk about Mary and John's feelings about her.

The gang reads about a death of a councilman, the man from earlier. Carlos wants to go out of the Akrida instead, and Lata agrees. Ada sides with John and Mary.

A councilman's staff member tells the group that he hasn't been himself in the last month. They think the monster is a djinn.
-
When they get to a warehouse, they spot a djinn, but he gets away. Though Ada reveals that was her son.
-
Ada tells the group that while she is human, her son, Tony, is half-djinn.
-
She says she was young and fell in love quickly, and his hunger took over. Hunters found him. Ada was determined to save her baby, so she hid the truth until he turned 17 and he found out everything.

Ada pleads with the others to let her find her son and talk to him first, so they split up to help.

Needing to get intel from the cops, John meets with his ex and subtly brings up the councilman. She admits she found two other victims were killed the same way as the councilman, but she couldn't find any other connection.

While on another stakeout, Ada and Carlos spot Tony, who is still upset about what happened to his dad. He tells Ada that he hasn't hurt anyone.

Tony tells her that he heard something that drew him to Lawrence, and when he leaped into the dream, another monster was already there. It was like a giant bug.

Ada wakes up and tells Carlos that Tony isn't killing anyone. It's the Akrida.

Lata tells the group that an unknown substance was found in the councilman's brain, meaning that the Akrida have been wanting to control humans.
-
Mary tells Ada the good news about Tony, and Ada still blames herself. However, Mary tells her that Tony learned how to survive, and he only learned that from her.
-
She asks Ada about Ali and love, and it's clear that Ada would do it all over again.
-
Carlos, Mary, and John find the Akrida's next target, and while he wasn't so willing to leave, the Akrida find them.
-
When they get rid of the Akrida, it's discovered that it got to Mary.

Mary has the others tie her up since she doesn't want to hurt them. Lata says they need a supernatural brain surgeon to get the stinger out, and Ada brings up Tony; they need to find him.

Ada finds Tony on a bus about to leave, and she asks for his help, apologizing for what she's done and said.
-
Tony agrees to help and says that the Akrida hid the stingers in the deepest fears of her mind. He needs a volunteer for a lifeline, someone she's connected to, and John is volunteered.

Thanks to a punch from Carlos, John is in Mary's dream world, which looks like her parent's house.

Carlos digs up research on Akrida and the people they've taken over.

Mary comes face to face with a younger version of her and a werewolf named Jacob, who turned back into human form after getting killed.

As John and Mary walk further down Mary's subconscious, Mary tells John she can't face it. John assures her she can, and he's right there with her.
-
They get into Mary's room, and it's the night her parents told her that the monsters she was afraid of were real and she was going to be a hunter one day. She was five.

Mary talks to her younger self and tells her it's good to be scared. She assures her that it's going to be okay someday and that she's going to find a way to open all those doors that were closed for her.

Young Mary lifts the pillow, and Mary uses the knife to cut the stingers.

Millie talks to John about Mary, but before she can give him advice, Mary shows up. Millie thanks John for keeping an eye on him.
-
Mary thanks John for being in the dream with her and seeing all the different versions of herself, and John has something he wants to talk to her about. He admits she was right about leaving Lawrence and how she deserves the fresh start. He gives her the motorcycle he's been working on so she can use it to get out of town once this is all over.

Ada and Lata see Tonny out, and he tells them the Akrida talked about collecting essence from other monsters, but he doesn't know what their plan is.
- The gang goes through research on the Akrida, and Mary comes across Roxanne's name. They turn to the radio to her station, and Roxanne tells her colleague that they will get the young hunters eventually.
