This Is Us Season 5 Episode 4 deals with Kevin's upbringing as well as some stuff going on in the other Pearson kids' lives.

In the distant past, Rebecca and Jack are exhausted because Kevin wakes up crying all the time. The other kids have already got on a sleep schedule. Jack wants to follow Miguel's advice to let Kevin cry it out, but Rebecca can't stand him crying and thinks something is wrong.

Meanwhile, adolescent Kevin wants to quit the football team after the coach says he is not trying hard enough, and Rebecca is all too happy to agree while Jack says that Kevin needs to learn not to quit every time things get tough. While they are arguing, Kevin asks Randall for help learning his plays.

Meanwhile, Kate accompanies Ellie to an ultrasound appointment. When Ellie gets upset after Kate mentions naming the baby Chloe, Kate fears that she's scared Ellie away. But Ellie tells her she is not having second thoughts.

Kate's conversation with Ellie leads her to confront a secret from her own past, while elsewhere Randall learns something about Malik while Malik is shadowing him for a school project.
