Well talk about "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." This week Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Episode 5 brought new meaning to that familiar phrase.
Mary was pissed and with pretty good reason. Part of me has never fully trusted Katrina. It was great to see Ichabod call her out on 200 years worth of lies. What other secrets is she keeping from her husband?
Hawley was a bit more agreeable this week. As I've said before, I'm hoping he joins our Scooby gang permanently. He's a valuable asset and a real thorn in Ichabod's side, which makes them a blast to watch.

I've rarely come across a character on this show that was so interesting I wish they would've stuck around. It was fantastic that Crane connected with someone that loved Colonial reenactments and appreciated him for not breaking character. Brilliant stuff!
Can you imagine the wonderful storylines an Ichabod/Caroline friendship could have given us? Tom Mison's expression was priceless when he realized she had a crush. Abbie's timing could not have been more perfect. She walks in right at the moment he says "my wife is alive and well." Caroline calling Abbie "Mrs. Crane" and her reaction "Mrs. who now?" cracked me up.
Ichabod: I was regretfully unaware of Ms. Caroline’s affections for me.
Abbie: Anyone could tell that girl had a case of Crane on the brain.

Elsewhere Katrina is working a spell. "Find my love, find Ichabod" she tells a huge raven. I've really enjoyed Headless with his head on this season. I mean there's only so much you can accomplish with a guy that has no head right? This enchantment allows us to sympathize and understand Abraham's side of the story. It humanizes Headless and that's incredibly important. The rivalry between Henry and him works well, too.
John Noble's delivery of the line "I relish any chance to cause my parents pain" shows us just how much fun he's having in this role.
No matter how twisted, Abraham's got a front row seat to the apocalypse and keeping Katrina at his side is his way of protecting her.
It was perfectly fitting that Henry was the one who summoned the Weeping Lady. Once the pieces started falling into place, it was cool to see War made things very personal again.
Though the Weeping Lady wasn't The Grudge scary, the water effect sure was well done wasn't it? Ichabod's apology to Caroline was touching. When the Weeping Lady rushed toward her I thought for a second she might possess Caroline. Of course, after the opening credits we learn she drowned the poor girl. There goes my wish for an Ichabod/Caroline spinoff. I'm kidding, there's no replacing Abbie.
I know our heroes are kick ass investigators, but tire tracks leading them to the high school and the teens that were out there was quite a stretch. Plus who in their right mind would admit to seeing the Weeping Lady?
Abbie: The Weeping Lady, local legend goes back to Colonial days. She’s the ghost of a woman who drowned in the Blind Brook river. Dripping wet, glowing green eyes whole nine.

When Ichabod asked about the lady's tears, I had already made the connection he's the guy to blame. Truthfully, the fact FOX released images of Icky and a woman during Colonial times helped a bit too.
Mison has the most hilarious expressions. Didn't you just love the way he looked at that mysterious raven with Katrina's note? He's a total trip!
The love letter seemed a bit random to me, but we soon learn its the plot device that leads Weepy to Kat. The object of her jealousy and vengeance.
I feel like the Hawley "right place at the right time" shtick is no longer believable. Two thoughts crossed my mind. He either wants in and doesn't know how to approach Abbie and Icky to join the team. Or Moloch (perhaps Henry) has him keeping a close eye on the witnesses. You have to admit it's a bit fishy the way he conveniently pops up. Is it just me?
Either way, I was glad to see Nick offer his assistance this week.
Hawley: Cut me some slack okay. It’s my first real life monster.
Abbie: You deal in supernatural armaments Hawley.
Hawley: Do people who sell Christmas trees all believe in Santa Claus?

So Abbie gets attacked by the Weeping Lady and Ichabod springs into action. Did no one else in that library hear what was going on? By the way, loved the effect of the watery portal on the floor and Ichabod reaching in to pull Abbie out. Lucky for Abbie that Hawley's around to give her mouth to mouth. Does he imagine Ichabod froze up or is he aware the man is not from their time?
After researching the tale of the Weeping Lady and seeing a piece of her shawl we learn Ichabod knew the woman. They were actually promised to each other as children. She was madly in love, him not so much. His affections were more brotherly than anything else. Ichabod describes her as "intense with her emotions." I'll say, so much in fact she stuck around for 200 years bidding her time.
Did anyone else guess that Mary's letter was written by Katrina? Boy was Ichabod upset with Katrina after learning the truth. Here's where the love letter plot device kicks in leading the Weeping Lady to Katrina. Hawley provides a weapon but tells Abbie saving her life makes them even. Just when you start to like the guy, he says something really douchey.
Hawley did in fact see the watery portal, he admits as much. I'm telling you the guy will either join the team or we'll learn he's Henry's spy. Please share your thoughts on this in the comments.
Katrina uses magic to break free and comes across Ichabod and Abbie in the woods. She needs to use dark magic to release Mary's spirit, but she needs another witch as an anchor. "We're all out of witches. How about a witness?" Abbie asks. While Katrina teaches Abbie the incantation, Ichabod confronts the Weeping Lady. Hawley's weapon didn't work, was this on purpose I wonder?
I was surprised that Mary pointed over at Katrina when Ichabod asked what happened to her.
It was great to see everything come together in that final flashback. Mary didn't commit suicide after all, rather she tripped and fell to her death. Katrina wrote the letter Ichabod received from Mary. Not cool Katrina and Ichabod's disappointment was written all over his face. Can he truly trust his wife?
Which reminds me, if Katrina can make the Horseman stop dead in his tracks why hasn't she done this before? Either way, she tells Abraham she's ready to go home and he's too pleased to care about much else. Even the Horseman of Death is a sucker for love.
Jenny informs Hawley his weapon was a dud. She then goes in for a kiss and it appears a love triangle is taking shape. Do we need that on this show? It's such a storytelling cliché. I'm willing to give the writers a chance to see where they go with it, but I prefer the monster hunting.
Moloch wasn't too pleased with Henry. He wants Katrina turned not dead. "She is one of the Hellfire Shards. A chosen vessel" Moloch tells Henry.
What did you think of "The Weeping Lady?" Did you like the connection between Icabod and the vengeful spirit? What's Hawley deal anyway? Is there a love triangle coming? Any idea what a Hellfire Shard is? It's your turn my fellow Sleepyheads, share your thoughts in the comments below. Keep an eye out for our Sleepy Hollow round table later this week.
