How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Exploding Meatball Sub"

at .

Barney knew revenge is a dish best served cold as he handed Marshall the meatball sub from beneath his sheets in the closing scene, but coming off an extended hiatus, "The Exploding Meatball Sub" could have used a little more heat as it got underway.

The interactions between Ted and Zoey seemed forced and few of the jokes early on hit their mark.

Having long anticipated this new episode, my fear began to grow that I might be in for a disappointment. After Lily's amazing line about what love is, however, complete with a high five up top to Marshall, I was assured my hopes would not be covered in marinara sauce in the end.

While I didn't care for most of the scenes which featured Ted and Zoey, I did like the one where Ted objected to something Zoey did to him under the sheets. It seemed only Zoey is a fan of having her salad tossed. The question remains though whether she prefers jelly or syrup. It could have also been a little stinky pinky, who knows?

I thought the annoyances at work that Marshall could no longer stand were great. For those of you who thought the guy cutting his nails at the conference table was a little over the top, you should swing by my office. Not only does one guy I work with cut his nails at his desk, he even clips his toe nails. I swear he almost blinded me once. Marshall was lucky to get out of there with both eyes intact.

The writers brought yet another great term to the masses this week as the featured Graduation Goggles. The term beer goggles is very prevalent, but this was a nice twist on the concept I had never heard of. Such a creative and accurate way to describe a very real phenomenon.

What was not accurate was Ted's description of Lily's eyes. Let's get something straight Ted. Emma Pillsbury (who I adore) from Glee has eyes like a Pokemon, not Lily.

I have never noticed Lily's eyes to be abnormally large at all.

When I first read the title of this week's episode I thought someone had bought some seriously laced chronic, but then I remembered the euphemism for smoking pot on the show is "eating a sandwich" not a "sub."

On the subject of exploding, Barney's anger blackout was hilarious as Robin reminded him that she had been standing there the whole time.

Loved, loved, loved,l Marshall and Lily's station wagon. I'm pretty sure it was a Ford Pinto Squire. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

Carter and Craig did a nice job addressing a number of story lines like the construction of the GNB building, Marshall's continued growth following the death of his father, Barney's own daddy issues etc.

We even got a little hint as to the answer of the big question as Ted informed his kids, he eventually learned cuddles are better than conflict when it comes to relationships, but as he put it, he came by this realization "the hard way."

Does this mean Ted will break up with Zoey in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of building a skyscraper in New York City? We'll have to wait and see but in the meantime please weight in with your thoughts and be sure to check out and rate some of the more memorable How I Met Your Mother quotes from this week's episode.

Marshall and I have been together for fifteen years and the only debate about Tommy Boy we've ever had, is whether it's awesome or super awesome. That's love bitch!
