I am with all of the above commentors..Why would you ever kill off Mike Franks???...He was an essential part of the NCIS group...He kept Gibbs grounded and just said what he meant and did not beat around the bush...I loved that character...If, in fact, he was ill in real life I can understand writing him out of the show but give us a hint that was the case and let him enjoy his last days in Mexico with his granddaughter...although the Mike Franks character would probably like to go out in style..six guns blazing....I hate that he was written off

Please find a way to bring Muse Watson / Mike Franks back.
Let him have lived and went undercover with the Pysch Ops or something similar and resurface if he or Gibbs needed the help.
Muse Watson is a powerful actor and Franks, a powerful character. He balances Gibbs out and is the only one Gibbs can talk and lean on.

WHY did Muse Watson leave NCIS or did NCIS let him go?

NCIS is not the same with Mike Franks gone! Why in the world did they write his character out of the show? Makes no sense to me!

I agree with Pat and SLT. All NCIS would have to do is write an episode where the person killed was Mike's twin (unknown to Gibbs and the rest). Bring back Mike! In fact, let the whole team (including Franks)blow the P2P killer to kingdom come.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom a show as good as NCIS killing off Mike Franks. He became my favorite character (not to lessen the excellent other actors on this great show). He offered a counterpart to the "going by the book" of everything else in the show. And, the harshness of the director needed someone who didn't answer to him. I was so upset by this that I stopped watching the show. Maybe I'll pick it up again in re-runs, but for now that stupid and tragic loss just made me too angry. If the actor who played Franks couldn't or wouldn't play the part anymore, the writers could have done the decent thing and let him live out the rest of his life in his abode in Mexico. That place of his was a nice touch. Franks was a great and powerful character who deserved better than that.

NCIS is my all time favorite show. I cannot miss a Tuesday night with Gibbs and the team. Mike Franks was a great character it was a shame to lose him that way. I also agree the show isnt the same with Vance. He seems to sneaky and always trying to break up the team.

Bring back Franks! The ultimate agent; could take out 1 or 21, not a pretty boy", gruff voice, bad attitude, nobody to answer to... a butt-kickin' former agent you could count on to get any job done RIGHT..no lose ends. He was the "Mentor", the "Teacher", the "GO TO Guy" when the job got dirty, Franks would SHINE!
The only agent that Gibbs could actually look up to....and we LIKED him.
So what were you thinking?

I love the NCIS show. I am very dissipointed in the fact they killed off Mike Franks. I think he was a very important charter in the show i think the show will not be the same without him. I sincerely hope the show comes to realize they need to re in vent franks using the same man who played franks i belive this will put more spunk into the show.

Excellant show!! Well written!! Although all the shows are great, this one in particular highlights how the power brokers play for keeps...maybe the producers would consider bringing in Mike Frank's daughter-in-law to keep his memory alive and add to future story lines.

sad to loose mike. excellent character. it would have been better to leave the door open for even less occassional visits if he had not been killed off. the future ratings are unpredictable so either the end of the series is nigh and cbs know this or they were shortsighted. hope it is the latter as i enjoy the series very much and hope it stay's around for a good while longer

Gibbs was shown with the coffin he was in the process of making more than once before Swansong and during Swansong he re-read the letter from Mike Franks explaining that he could no longer run due to these lungs and he had about four months left and he intended to live every one of those months. So guessing he had lung cancer and was already terminal and he chose to fight with P2P killer and go out that way than to wait for the cancer to end his life. The character EJ Barret was the niece of the Secretary of Navy and hence her ability to be in charge as Director Vance had no choice if he wanted to keep his job. Gibbs somehow knew this and kept his eye on her. She also removed a tracking device from her dead team member and I believe this is who Tony is supposed to investigate as I believe everyone knew he was sleeping with her. And if they have to kill off any more characters I hope it is Kort. He has been a thorn in everyone's side for way too long. And I hope CIA Ray does not

NCIS is my all time favorite. Mark Harmon is the best. He really has it going on. The whole group absolutely "rocks"! They are so great together. I see this show going on and on. This is great TV! I live for reruns, too. I simply can't get enough. This from a 68 year old gal, who knows great TV.

Considering the political direction this show has been taking, the Franks character was an embarrassment to Harmon and crew. Here you had a genuine John Wayne type good guy who knew that our contry's enemy is not some squid or jarhead who kills an innocent charactere becaus he's afraid of being caught for stealing/embezzling/sleeping with the wrong person. FRanks knew that the barbarians are truly at the gate and sometimes extraordinary measures need to be taken to protect us from terrorists. It's amazing how the slant of this show has changed since the 2008 election.

NCIS is one of the few "real" shows that mimics real life in that people come and go ... If you want to have your gut wrenched out by characters coming and going, take a look at the British show Spooks (MI-5 in the US). Characters are ROUTINELY killed off, not gratuitously but because people die in the line of duty.
