I thought the hug was cheesy. The fact both the girls were crying was just so cliche. I hate that they killed off Franks and I hate the Tiva and McAbby so I found it a very disappointing episode. I wish they could keep ships out of this show - it drags it down and ruins it whenever they stick ship moments in it.

Top notch ep all the way. Jesse Stern wrote a brilliantly clever, twisty, tense script, and the acting was outstanding, especially from Mark, Michael, Cote and Rocky. It's disgusting how this show is ignored by snobby award shows. That needs to change. And the elevator scene was touching and sad. I love this show !

I was so sad to see Mike Franks get killed last night. I loved his relationship with this team. I must say, I do not like the addition of the so-called "New team" they can be ommitted asap. Even though, I like the actor that was on Numbers. I know they like to shake it up, but this show and cast is excellent without any permanent additions... I watch reruns all the time.

The Swan Song episode was disjointed and not very interesting. Mark Harmon was fine but why was it nessessary to lose an excellent character like Franks and the actor, Muse Watson, who added a lot to the show. The Franks character was well developed and there was no point to killing him off. He could have just stayed in Mexico. What was up with the box and Harmon saying he hoped he didn't need it .. that really telegraphed Franks death right up front. The hint at a Leon intrigue is poorly sketched out and not worth mentioning. The port-to-port killer seems more like a mechanism for revamping the cast than anything else. The writing for Ducky's profile of the killer was lame. My theory is they sent the good writers to improve NCIS LA at the expense of NCIS. Puleese pull it together NCIS!

It was a good episode, but sad. I kept telling my son, the victim was Franks, but he kept saying"WHY?" I kinda thought he was sick, too, like Jenny. He was coughing, and looked rough. I hate they killed him off, but there's always flashbacks

I thought this episode was fantastic..I am a fanatic about NCIS and was really upset not knowing who was going to get killed off. I love the cast and feel that all of them add so much to this series. Love them all!

After some of the worst writing ever on NCIS, "Swan Song" showcased some of the best. The way Mike faced down the killer to Ziva's grief over his death is just amazing. And Tony's unspoken care of Ziva, acknowledging her weariness over death was some of Michael Weatherly's best acting. If the Emmy's don't recognize NCIS and this episode, then the Emmy's are a joke.

I simply do not "get" the port-to-port killer story line. I have not missed an episode, am fairly intelligent and yet this seems like it came out of nowhere. Can't stand EJ. Love Alimi Ballard, but I see him and I think "Numbers." I vary from week to week as to which of the main characters is my favorite. Favorite line from the show-many years ago, Kate asked Gibbs what Ducky was like when he was young and Gibbs replied, "Illya Kuriyakin" (huge liberties taken in the spelling of the name:) For those of us old enough to remember The Man from U.N.C.L.E., that was really funny! I really like Vance. He is no nonsense and to the point. Great contrast to Gibbs and Dinozzo.

I haven't read all of the comments, so this might have been addressed already; however:
Did anyone else think it was strange that Franks brought the "insurance policy" with him and gave it to Gibbs? Also, Franks was coughing a lot and looked like he was ailing. I thought, at some point, he was going to tell Gibbs that he had lung cancer, or that Ducky would find it on autopsy. Therefore, like Jenny Shepard, Franks would have committed "suicide by bad guy."

totally drained after that episode as well. Gonna have to watch it a couple of times there are so many hidden gems in there referring to past, present and future knowing the writers at N.C.I.S.

Franks and Gibbs didn't bring up ghosts for no reason. Franks will be mentoring Gibbs as a ghost figure, you can count on that.
Muse Watson is a great actor so he can't just go away. If this episode isnt at least nominated for an Emmy, I will really be surprised. I would be curious to know who it was who gave EJ the lead on this case since Vance said it was not him????

This was a powerful episode. I don't think we have seen the last of Mike though. I bet that he will be in alot of episodes as Gibbs "little voice" within, just as he was last night guiding him thru the case. It was great as always...I hate when the hiatus comes. Now what do we do?????

I watch NCIS regularly and love the Mike Franks character and I hated to see him get killed last night. Who ever came up with that story line needs his or her head examined, writers are always coming up with creative ways to bring a character back this would be a great way to use some of that creativity!!!

I also felt tears at the end; more in sympathy with the team than for Mike himself. There was no romantic Tiva or McAbby in that scene, it was people grieving with friends/family. I wish that all the romance/slash folks could see that and layoff the soap opera stuff. Was Mike already dying? I don't know, but Gibbs and the viewers knew Mike was ready to face death unafraid and was more than willing to die helping Gibbs. This reminded me of the "super-soldiers" from the X Files and was almost hoping they will find a bump on the P2P killer's neck. It was super-soldier vs. cowboy and the cowboy died, but he did wound the super-soldier. That was cool.
