Warehouse 13 Review: The Return of H.G. Wells

by at .

A lot of this season has been be set up around building Pete and Myka up to something and "3...2...1..." felt like a sign of things to come.

A hookup between Pete and Myka? Maybe. A lot of the signs seem to point in that direction, don't they?

The Warehouse Team
We had the flashbacks with Jack and Rebecca, who decided to explore where they could go together, despite the rather significant odds they faced of being killed. Then there was H.G. and Wally (R.I.P. Ianto), who also displayed some serious sparks.

(By the way, I would kill for a spin-off that features Jack and Rebecca over H.G. any day.)

“3…2...1…” was supposed to offer some redemption for Wells and I could definitely see some of it. However, a lot of what she was doing ended up being pompous and annoying. She’s brilliant, she was a great agent, and she always has a plan. Great qualities, but why make smug remarks? They rubbed me the wrong way.

Thankfully, much of the episode was about Pete and his lingering insecurities about Myka. Which were mainly due to H.G. The resolution between all three of them was a great moment of growth in rebuilding Pete and Myka’s relationship.

Pete was finally able to fully put his trust in Myka again. Even if that required him to put his trust in a woman that tried to “activate a super volcano with a giant fork.” It was a big moment for Pete because he has a hard time moving on from people who leave. With the past fully sorted out, they can move forward again with their partnership.

Overall, I loved the three generations of stories coming together to find the horn. I just wished there was more Jack and Rebecca and less annoying, present day H.G. Wells.

I have to agree with many about the romantic seperation between Myka and Pete. Two people should be able to care deeply (love) for each other without having to be in love with each other. trying to get them together would detract from the story and their character and the show. I don't remember who said it earlier, but the real romantic tension in the show was between Myka and HG, far more the official couple. during most of those Pete railing on HG scenes i couldn't help imagine someone caught between their girlfriend and the family that doesn't like her.

H.G. Wells is a complex/intriguing character. it's so much/drama anytime she's around it only gives depht to the show..
interesting also her relationship hate/love with Myka

Yeah, no romatic pairing between Pete and Myka. I hate when shows do this. Jack and Rebekah are lame. I did like having separate times but just 1893 and the present would have been better. HG and Ianto made a good team. I wonder if any other "religious" artifacts (like the Golem one and the trumpet) will show up.

I agree that this was a good end cap to Myka's leaving at the end of last season. The writers are obviously playing cat and mouse with us regarding Pete and Myka but it's clear that not only are they attracted to each other, they care deeply for one another. I thought the writers were also making an interesting point that agents in the past have had relationships.

I really enjoyed the Victorian flashbacks and it was great to see David Gareth Lloyd! The modern HG scenes lacked the same spark but it was nice to see the character again regardless.

This show just keeps on getting better and I was thrilled to see that it will most likely get another season next year.

I'm on the fence about an HG spinoff. Like others have said, we know where she ends up, so there really isn't a need to see it played out. However, I really like Gareth David-Lloyd (what is with his name that everyone screws it up? I always have to check IMDB to make sure I get it right. lol) and if he was in it, i'd at least try to watch it.

I did slightly prefer the Jack and Rebecca scenes last night, however, his period appropriate chauvinism will get old really quickly. You can tell that he means the stuff that he says, and at times I wanted Rebecca to smack him.

Over all, I wasn't a big fan of the episode. I didn't like how it jumped from 1893 to 1962 to the present. While I enjoyed the Jack and Rebecca scenes, they felt superfluous to the story. I would have rathered sticking with just 1893 and the present (or simply the present).

Ok I may be alone in this thought but why does every show have to put the two leads together, from Moonlighting to Law and order SVU," oh will they get together Blah blah " Why cant we just have a good pair of people working and being Friends and Partners.Sometimes a man and women just are friends.

It's amazing just how heteronormative relationships are viewed; the conversation between HG and Myka was by far the most emotionally charged and certainly the closest to romance - perhaps even more so than the "officially" paired Jack and Rebecca.

Also did anyone else think when HG and Wolly were walking down the London alley talking that Jaime Murray was thinking "OMG I'm walking around with Ianto Jones!!!"

I understand what your saying Nick thats why I think HG should come back one more time to fully redeem herself otherwise I'll just be depressed watching her create new artifacts and looking forward to the future. Having a spinoff set in the future wouldn't be so bad either. It could be like an Angel spinoff were she goes off into the world in search of redemption.

Regarding Myka and Pete I just don't see the romance there were as I do with Jack and Rebecca. With Pete I see a great guy who loves Myka as a sibling and vise versa. Maybe that's what the moral of the show was. Wolly and HG had a sibling relationship going on also at least on HG's side she seemed to adore him like a little brother also she did have a relationship with her superior. Jack/Rebecca were together romantically, and then there is Pete and Myka who seemed to care for each other like family but not romantically...I just haven't seen any glances towards a relationship so far.

Now HG and Myka sigh....saddest breakup ever.
