Revenge Round Table: "Guilt"

Death knocked on the door of The Hamptons this week, as Emily Thorne's plans took a fatal turn on the latest installment of Revenge.

It was awesome! In the latest edition of the TV Fanatic Round Table, staff writers Christine Orlando, Leigh Raines and Dan Forcella break down "Guilt," rating Emily's most recent scheme and looking ahead to the fallout of Lydia's death...

Rate Emily's Revenge of the Week on a scale from 1 to 10.
Christine: Ooh. I'll give it an 8.5. Setting Lydia up to take the fall for both the senator and Dr. Banks was brilliant. And since Conrad's already paranoid and Victoria already hates her, they'd be quite willing to believe she's the villain.

Leigh: I'd have to say a 6, despite how crazy this whole episode was. It wasn't a new revenge, it was Emily simply moving a few of her pawns around. Setting the blame on Lydia was ideal, but there were so many things that could - and almost did - go wrong.

Dan: 9. I think the fact that she was working off of prior moves was what made this feat so interesting. Emily so seamlessly made everything fall into place this time around.

Who will take the heat for Lydia's death, Frank or Nolan?
Christine: I think Frank's going to do everything he can to make it look like a suicide but I worry for Nolan. He left his prints all over her loft and on the balcony railing. They may not be in the system but if someone spotted him there, he's in trouble. He needs to hold onto that video. But I think Frank's a great character. Is it bad to say I don't want to see him get hauled off to jail, at least not just yet?

Leigh: I agree that it will be made to look like a suicide. It might work for awhile but I'm betting Frank will somehow end up taking the fall for the Graysons. Plus, he now has a bite mark from Lydia and I can see that raising some eyebrows.

Dan: Well, since Nolan is around at Emily and Daniel's party it's difficult to say he will be in serious trouble, but I do see him getting the early blame. Because he's so smart, he will work his way out of trouble, leading to Frank's ultimate demise.

What will Emily's reaction be to finding out Lydia has died?
Christine: I think she'll be devastated. She never meant for that to happen. She wants her prey alive and suffering, not dead. We may get to see more glimpses of Amanda because of this.

Leigh: Emily is going to be upset and thrown off kilter. Death was not a part of her plan.

Dan: I agree it will hit her hard, but our Emily still has her eyes on the prize. She won't let something like this take her down. Emily has the determination to fight through.

Is Daniel working at Jack's bar a good idea for all parties?
Christine: I love the idea but I'm sure nothing good will come of it. This may very well be the road that leads to Daniel getting shot.

Leigh: Daniel working at the bar might not be a good idea, but it's going to be great for our entertainment.

Dan: I think it will lead to the two guys hitting it off and becoming buds. This will inevitably make the shooting scene that much more emotional down the road.

1. Since I'm confused. What's her endgame by sending all those things to Lydia? How did she know that Frank will most likely went through Lydia's stuffs? And didn't she mention that she sent Lydia those stuffs? So, if it's about the latest revenge (Senator, Bill), won't they get suspicious of Emily instead? So freaking confused. And what the heck is up with the photograph? Does Emily really that careless? Urgh. Who will take the heat for Lydia's death, Frank or Nolan?
As long as Nolan has that video, he's safe. But the question now? Will Emily run to Nolan's defense like Nolan run to hers everytime? What will Emily's reaction be to finding out Lydia has died?
I'm sure she's relieved since that old photograph won't likely pose much problem and probably very relieved since her secrets die with Lydia. Is Daniel working at Jack's bar a good idea for all parties?
Give me Janiel (or Dack) bromance! That's all I'm saying!

I agree with Leigh. There were a lot of ways this plan could have backfired. Ultimately, it was Frank who saved Emily's hide in this episode. Lydia arrived to her apartment before Nolan did. If Frank hadn't been there, she would have seen the fax and realize who Emily really was. I'm also concerned for Nolan. He can prove that Frank killed Lydia of course, but he would have to explain WHY he was spying on Emily, WHY he simply didn't ask Lydia for the camera back, WHY he had to physically retrieve the camera himself, etc. It won't tie him to Lydia's murder but it'll definitely make him look suspicious. One final note, I'm a tad disappointed that Lydia's death turned out to be murder instead of a suicide, being that the title of the episode is "Guilt." An actual suicide would have been a much more interesting storyline.

1. 8. It was relatively solid considering at times she seemed to be flying by the seat of her pants. 2. I think they'll make it seem like a suicide eventually, but I too worried about Nolan (the best character on this show if you ask me! ) because he left his prints everywhere etc. It would be something interesting to see...if Emily looks out for him the way that he looks out for her. I'd love to see her be loyal to him for a change. It would be refreshing. 3. I think she'll be shocked and it will definitely fluster her and throw her off of her game. I think until this point it's been a bit of a game to her, but the reality of people potentially dying around her never crossed her mind. 4. I like the idea of those two working together. So many great and horrible things can come from it. Makes for an interesting plot move.

I don't think Jack shot him! I think it was Tyler but Jack found him! And I'm sure nothing will happen to Nolan since he has the video, I was scared they would catch him but he was able to escape yay! oh, and I LOVED this ep!

There is something about that Tyler guy, he vaguely has that slight of the talented Mr. Ripley way about him. He is worming his way deeper into Daniel's life and playing things up to isolate him from the others and then there was that quote Nolan used, in the previous episode, about Tyler plying Daniel with alcohol like a frat boy to a freshman and that little scene when he placed Daniel in bed.

1. 8.5
2. Frank until Victoria intervenes. Nolan might get some heat.
3. I think Emily considered that people might die indirectly in her revenge so it won't hit her much.
4. Entertaining at first. They become buddies then the dreaded love triangle materializes.

Jacob, you know what He never got his phone back because his frienemy had it. but of course they are showing you from the what happened that led up to the shooting. But then we got a whole slew of things to come once the shooting is convienced.

I think it deserved an 10. This show is great and I think the building on to each weeks episodes is great becasue it allows you to see the story as it unfolds. I don't worry about Nolan all he needs to do is keep the Video and he's ok. But Frank is so in love with Ms. Grayson and she is in love with him too. He would do anything for her just to be near her. The writers are doing a great job.

As for theories, I think there is a second love triangle with Victoria, Conrad, and Frank. Daniel seems more like Frank's son, because of how Frank and Victoria interact. Hopefully Tyler is the one shot on the beach, he seems to have info on all secrets, a silent villian in anti-thesis to Emily's character. The person shot on the beach already seems dead, the way they drop. Nolan's plan seems to protect Emily at all costs.

I know I am probably alone in this, but after watching the pilot a second time, I'm not convinced that Daniel is actually the one who got shot. You clearly see the face of everyone on the beach that night (Jack, Declan, Charlotte) but you NEVER see the face of the man shot. I realize that he has Daniel's phone, but I'm beginning to think that it won't be Daniel after all.
